good answer... that reminds me of the first time I saw a cartoon I really liked. It was Voltron... I loved that show.
But What was your first cool concert?
Altamont

the music died that day.

Color Me Badd, Tony Toni Tone, C + C Music Factory and Bel Biv Devoe.
I was 13 and thought there would never be a cooler concert ever!
I miss Bill Hicks.
First show would be Jethro Tull's reunion tour at Irvine Meadows in about '84. I was 11. "Hey mom, what's that funny smell?"
But first "cool" show would be G 'N R at the Forum in '90.

Milli Vanilli/Young MC
First show: Tesla and Firehouse in 1992.
First "Cool" show: Hagfish played at my high school in 1994 for our "guitar club" interest club. At 9am. Punk rockers don't play that early. Anyway, that show made me want to join a band and sucked me into the local music scene.

psssssh....whateva, I threw rocks at Jesus.
+10 easily. she keeps beating me to the punch.
oh also i saw prince on the sign o' the times tour. it was awesome. yeah i'm that old. other notables include jane's addiction in a dive bar, rhcp/nirvana/pumpkins, nirvana at a couple of clubs, a couple mid period pixies show, fugazi falling through a makeshift stage and the pogues drunk as HELL. i went to a lot of CRAP shows too, seriously, but those few stand out as great ones for me.
york, what's a guitar club? i mean like, what did it entail? and is this a public school? just wondering.
Public school that thought it was private school.
There was a "tutorial" period for 30 minutes between first and second period. It was meant as a time to meet with teachers if you needed it. In reality it was a time to smoke or eat or hangout or get drunk.
Anyway, every other Wednesday during that time, we had a service club. These were clubs that did shit for the community, you know, like service 'n' shit.
Then, on the other every other Wednesday, we had interest clubs. Guitar, deabate, math, art, photogrpahy, star wars, whatever. Pretty much anyone could start one about anything. You had to be a member of both a service club and an interest club. They were more strict about the service.
The teacher in charge of the guitar club was an old hippie chemistry teacher. He liked to talk about how the FBI had a file on him from his days in college in Arizona. Real paranoid hippie type. Cool as hell, though. I had him for a week. The disco ball hanging in the his lab at school was from the original Fillmore in SF... his wife had given it to him as a present for a birthday or something.
Anyway, he got bands to play during guitar club in the school's auditorium. Hagfish was just getting big in Dallas then and were about to release their major label debut, etc... it was a full auditorium, and was the first live music exposure I had to a band where I felt liek I could go up and talk to them. I still love that band to death.

that's cool. but why couldn't your service club be you and your little guitar buddies palying for nursing homes and shit? why did you have to have both? i mean, how much fucking litter IS there for a bunch of teenagers to pick up anyway? what were some of the other service clubs? did they ever run out of ideas? sorry for being all nosy, i'm just interested. a lot of schools don't even have MUSIC classes anymore. we didn't do jack shit in our auditorium but huff glue and try to get to third base, but at least we had fucking MUSIC.
your teacher sounds awesome, btw. +5 for him.
