Default Educate Me(And Anyone Else) About The 2018 Lineup

From a glance, I seen the lineup and seen a handful of acts I'm personally interested in.
Yet everyone need a recommendation from time to time.
Pick a band you know/like/seen live before and make a post about them with a video or two of their work, and what album of theirs is their your favorite.

tldr: tell me(and others) about the 2018 lineup.

    Jamiroquai = fun & funky <3

They haven't been to the US in over 10 years. This will be a dance party.

When doing lineup research in 2018, go from the bottom to the top for each day. It's less depressing.

Tash Sultana, multi instrumentalist street musician who went viral a year or so ago, looking forward to this one. Saw her at The Echo.

Jamaraqui gonna be an ill dance party, i 2nd that.

I suggest catching Black Coffee. Hes getting invited back to back years which is always a good indicator. He's been solid in the underground deep house scene for well over a decade now. He'll probably get a closing spot at one of the small tents.

    Nothing But Thieves

-only have 2 albums and both are absolute masterpieces
-commonly compared to sounding similar to Muse & Radiohead, personally I like them better than both of those amazing bands
-amazing live (seen them 3x over last couple years in SF at criminally intimate venues, after first time I saw them at a tiny/400 person capacity venue, I said they'd be perfect to tour with and open for Muse and a couple weeks later, Muse announced just that :-))
-future Coachella headliner here, mark my words, do not miss....

Alpha_Q - do you want to update the OP as people post about different artists? If not I can start a new thread, I always found it really helpful to be able to click right to someone's description of an artist

The Buttertones are one my favorite bands and got to see them a few times last year. They have a mix of doowop, old style garage rock infused with fast pace punk sound to them. Top that off with intoxicating saxophone sections and you'll feel like their music should be in a movie.
American Brunch is one of their best albums and I think most accessible.

They’re on Beyonce’s Label. They toured with her in Europe. They also have the theme song for Grown-ish

Aminé is a rapper from Portland that had a mainstream hit last year with "Caroline", but don't judge him off of that because it's definitely not his best! Instead, listen to "Heebiejeebies" (a groovy duet with Kehlani) and "REDMERCEDES". His debut album, Good for You, is actually pretty solid and even features background vocals from Girlpool and Leon Bridges (who's makes an appearance in the "REDMERCEDES" music video). His lyrics are never really serious, but he's got a nice flow.

Carpenter Brut. He is a French electronic music artist and performs live with a guitarist and drummer. Synthwave music reminiscent of the soundtrack to an 80s film.

Los Ángeles Azules, a group I'm excited too watch cause growing up hispanic my pops and his side if the family would constantly play them and their "Spin off" band Los Ángeles De Charley.

They're a Mexican band that plays a cumbia style music, the groups gone through a few different singers and have special(mexican singers) guests throughout their sets to compliment that Mexican style of big band.

Greta Van Fleet is a four-piece rock band made up of four young dudes from rural Michigan. Three of the members are brothers. They have been blowing up recently (by rock band standards). Their sound is, well, a bit reminiscent of a certain four-piece English band from the late 60's and 70's.

I have been to concerts. I will go to concerts in the future.

Tank & Da Bangas are a New Orleans-based band that combines elements of funk, soul, hip hop, spoken word, and rock music. They're led by Tarriona "Tank" Ball, one of the most infectious band leaders I've seen. Tank & The Bangas blew up recently by winning the NPR Tiny Desk award (tickets for their show in SF were being sold for $250+ on the secondhand market), and have since been touring nonstop. Myself, I saw them at a backyard bbq Tank throws in New Orleans each year, knowing none of their songs, and it was an incredible experience - nonstop dancing, laughing, and honestly emotional by the end. I've not found their recordings to capture that same sound yet, but there's absolutely no way I'm missing them unless they conflict with, like, Jamiroquai or Soulwax.

    Here's a great set NPR Music's 10th Anniversary Concert:

Here's the set they did after winning the Tiny Desk contest:

I think this is the best place to post this question..I'm looking to find some of the more experimental, perhaps lesser known (read: high brow) acts this year. Last year my mind was absolutely BLOWN by S U R V I V E, so I suppose I'm looking for stuff in that same vein. Would also love to find something similar to Nicolas Jaar on this years line up, obviously he is more well known than survive but trying to give some context on what I'm looking for. Bemerritt just sent me Carpenter Brut which seems like a shoe in for that survive slot. Anyways, let me know if you all have some suggestions. Thanks!!

Just took a listen, definitely added to the list of acts I hope don't conflict with Soulwax on Friday. Thanks for posting.

I say that meaning it's not the typical electronic acts we will find in yuma or elsewhere. We don't need to split hairs over my choice of words.

I am looking forward to half of the line up to be fair.
Tash Sultana and Tank & The Bangas absolutely and now I want to see Los Angeles Azules as well, thanks for the recommendation.
Miguel is a rockstar, seen him live a few times - cannot wait to see him again.

My recommendations are Jidenna, although I haven't seen him live yet. His music is great.

Thee Oh Sees are bringing their dual-drummer fuzz-rock to the fields on Saturday. I've seen them a handful of times and they do not disappoint! For anyone claiming that the lineup is void of rock bands, here you are:

    13.2 / 14.1 / 15.1 / 16.1 / 17.2 / 18.2
