Default New Goldenvoice festival at the Queen Mary in Long Beach

Don’t know how this one slipped past us.

    https://www.pollstar.com/News/get-re...ry-fest-133916

Goldenvoice has inked a deal with the leaseholder of the Queen Mary, the retired ocean liner that now serves as a hotel, museum and tourist attraction in Long Beach, Calif., meaning the Queen will see “large-scale music festivals and concerts” in 2018

The terms of the deal between GV and Urban Commons, the leaseholder since 2016, were not disclosed. Urban Commons already announced plans to renovate the ship and are further seeking to transform the “65 acres of waterfront land surrounding the ship” into an “all-inclusive entertainment destination,” according to a press release.

“Our goal is to create community integrated and culturally significant events, and we are up to that challenge with this partnership” Paul Billings of AEG Presents and Goldenvoice said in a statement.

The move has the creative fingerprints of GV’s Paul Tollett and his team, who have maneuvered the Coachella and Stagecoach promoter into being one of the industry’s leading companies.

AEG Live / Concerts West/ Goldenvoice also put on the six-day Desert Trip in 2016, which was one of the biggest money-making events of the year and saw iconic rock acts like The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Neil Young take the stage over the course of the festival. The event was No. 1 on Pollstar’s 2016 Year End Top 20 Worldwide Festival grosses, with 150,000 tickets reported and $160,112,532 grossed.

Pollstar reached out to Goldenvoice for additional comment for the story, but hadn’t heard back at press time.

Shouldnt we just assume this will be where FYF happens now?

So I’m pretty unfamiliar with this place, is the Queen Mary a permanently docked cruise line that serves as a hotel now? According to this article the area is being turned into Queen Mary Island.

Would they use different venues around like the dome? Street stages? The ship itself?

If this is where FYF is, I wouldn't mind cutting a half hour or more off my drive from SD but I would kinda miss the DTLA experience.

Even with the Blue Line, it's still a 1.7-mile walk to the Queen Mary. Better than nothing, but unless there are a bunch of shuttles, it's not going to be enough to convince the masses to take Metro.

FYF wants to emulate Primavera in Barcelona. This venue looks like it can have a similar feel to Parc del Fňrum.

FYF USED TO want to emulate Primavera. You have to remember Sean is out and that was his thing. But who knows how this ends up. I figure GV will invest in more parking or something to make it easier to get to events there.

I remember when this place host ATP 2003. that was my first actual concert. It would be cool to go back and see a show there.
