Thread: Moderat (and experimental music)

    Default Moderat (and experimental music)

I had no idea what to expect when high tailing it over to the Mojave after Royksopp, but with all the hype these guys were getting on the board, I just had to get there and see it for myself.

Can we get some discussion on how dark and twisted the themes that this group explore are? Most of the songs I thought were very haunting, and it was only during "Bad Kingdom" when I was enthralled in the comic book scene I began to realize what the fuck these guys might be trying to say. Finishing of with the bomb explosion really rattled my cage, and it was a great start to what was to become a night of complete mind fuckerey thanks to Mr Jaar's fantastic experimental-ism before battling the escape from the computer hard drive at S U R V I V E.

All in all Saturday night was brilliant, and I hope this is a trend that Paul continues to keep and even expand on - Saturday night experimental mind fuckerey music night in the tents.

The real mind-fuckery Saturday night was when my husband got his phone stolen at the beginning of Jaar's set.

Left Royksopp slightly underwhelmed and needed Moderat to be amazing and walked over to hear 'A New Error' and was immediately filled with joy. So good.

So bummed to hear everyone ended up at Jaar's set. I don't understand the appeal at all.

Breakbot was such a treat. Thank you again Coachella!

Why are you bummed that people enjoyed something different than you?

Moderat > Nico > SURVIVE was an all time run for me

    Probably edged out

Hot Chip > SMD > Booka Shade for favorite night at coachella, but for now I'll consider it a tie

I was totally spent by the end of Saturday night, but now I know how to pace myself for next year.

My run was Moderat > Solomun > Nico which was almost as good as 2manydjs > Underworld > Sufjan > LCD Soundsystem

i was torn between Jaar and Breakbot, but ultimately chose Breakbot because I was in the mood for a party... and boy was it one. Such a blast. No regrets at all.

Moderat was hands down my favourite show of both weekends.

The easiest description I could give of it was it felt like I was transported out of coachella to this unreal immersive experience for 1 hour before returning to Coachella. I felt like I wasnt even there anymore. People kept on talking about how their jaws had dropped because of how amazing the show and visuals were. One of the best crowds at Coachella in my run of coachellas. It is no wonder Moderat are described as "Intelligent Electronic Dance"
