A week after a 36-year-old New York man was arrested on suspicion of stealing more than 100 cellphones from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, five more cellphone theft suspects were arrested.

Indio officers and members of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office were able to find more than 40 stolen cellphones, stolen credit cards and cash as they worked the festival grounds on Saturday, April 22, according to a Indio police news release.

They identified two separate groups as being responsible in the thefts.

The first group included Angela Trivino, 35, from New York and Viviana Hernandez, 38, from Los Angeles. The second group included Brenda Cansino, 29, of Miami, Sharon Ruiz, 25, from Van Nuys and Marco Leon, 27, of Los Angeles, according to the release.

All were arrested on suspicion of grand theft, possession of stolen property and conspiracy, officials say.

Indio police Sgt. Dan Marshall said the phones appeared to have been taken through pick-pocketing.

Officials say that people who have had a phone lost or stolen can see if their phone has been recovered by checking with the festival’s Lost and Found or coachella.com/guidebook/lostandfound/

The Lost and Found, where all recovered phones will be delivered, is at the festival’s main entrance south of the ferris wheel, according to the release.

Last week 36-year-old Reinaldo De Jesus Henao was arrested at the festival grounds after several festival goers noticed their phones missing and activated the “Find My Phone” feature.

That led the cell phone owners, and eventually the police, to Henao. He was “quickly detained by security until law enforcement officers could arrive,” Marshall said.

City News Service contributed to this report.
