New Meatbodies is sounding promising thus far, as well as the new Ty Segall record...Here's Creature Feature by Meatbodies, from their upcoming album Alice:

And there's Father John Misty (who put out the incredible single, "Real Love Baby" late last year) with this new track:

Can someone please tell me about an album to listen to instead of a bunch of singles?

Ty Segall's new one is fantastic. It covers the wealth of styles he's cultivated over the past decade, and has some of his strongest material to date. I've been spinning it every day and I'm just growing to love it more each time.

Jungle Fire just put up a stream of their second album, Jambu, on KCRW. They describe themselves as Tropical Funk, which to my ear sounds like a blend of afrofunk and cumbia. The album is really groovy and fun, and they sound like they'd be excellent live. I'd recommend checking it out. It also comes out a week from today.

Finally, the new Cloud Nothings is killer. It's less immediate than their previous records, but there are still tons of earworms and driving guitar lines to keep you coming back until you realize the songs are more mature and focused, and the playing is better than ever before. Highly recommended.

On the topic of singles, the new Pallbearer track that premiered today is a beast.

I really like the new Cloud Nothings and also felt there is a big jump in the songwriting. Didn't really feel the need to come back to their last album or a desire to see them on their last tour but this one has me excited to see them play out again.

Austra's Future Politics has received lukewarm reviews but I've always liked her voice. Production wise is very safe and I can't really pinpoint a standout single but was enjoyable to listen to as an album.

The new Grandaddy record is very good. Not a departure from their early 2000s releases, but that's fine with me.

Japandroids were on Colbert performing their lead single and I think it's pretty great. I'm not a huge fan, but I really enjoy a few of their singles. Haven't been able to make it through the new album also.

Tin Man's new album is streaming on xlr82 and it's all sort of mellow acid grooves. https://www.xlr8r.com/news/2017/02/s...ed-lp-in-full/

Also, Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk's Passage is really lovely, dreamscape ambient with tons of shimmer.

    Is Priest different than Priests?

This Priests track has been on repeat for me:

The Menzingers' fifth studio album (and first on Epitaph), "After the Party" was released today. Greg and Tom are really coming into their own on this one - as hook writers, storytellers, etc. They're the current torchbearers in the "heartland punk" scene that some of you may find corny and derivative, but I've always had an extreme soft spot for. After a couple spins, think its up there with "On the Impossible Past" as their best record, right above "Chamberlain Waits."

Random aside - I'll never understand what becomes "Pitchfork punk" and what doesn't. No clue why Japandroids, PUP, and Joyce Manor hog all the punk press on pitchfork when you've got bands like The Menzingers, Restorations ,etc. releasing killer stuff, Dead to Me reuniting, Chris Farren and Dave Hause doing killer solo records, etc. Anyway, as you were.

RIYL: Gaslight Anthem, The Replacements, Bruce Springsteen

Sampha's debut album just came out, and it's phenomenal. I've only listened through once, but there's a lot to digest. Hard to imagine this doesn't end up one of my favorites of the year.

"(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano" is stunningly beautiful.
