Fuck Yes, Chelsea's back...Her first single from her forthcoming album, Hiss Spun, out Sept. 22, 2017:

"Money can't give what the truth takes away."

The tone and delivery of her voice pairs perfectly with her heavier tunes, as well as her stripped-back acoustic tracks...I'm sure this new album will have a blend of both, just as her previous album...

Also, Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Failure) contributes guitar throughout her new album, and it was recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge) in Salem, Massachusetts...Sounds like this will be another stellar entry into her discography.

And arcade fire blew them all out of the water with their new single.

Seriously, what an insane day of new releases.

Definitely. Plus I'm still catching up on all the stuff over the last couple of weeks, going through Roger Waters, alt-J, Bleachers, and London Grammar again. Lots of listening to do. I'll have my headphones on everywhere I go for a while.

Portugal. The Man - Woodstock. It's pretty good, a bit more poppy then their last few albums but they are still proving to be extremely talented artist. I'm going to say that this is going to be the album that pushes them in to the mainstream.

The new Royal Blood is a good time. More of the same, I don't mind that too terribly though.

I've given both enough listens I feel like I can easily recommend them as two of the best heavy releases of the year:

Elder - Reflections of a Floating World is a killer heavy doom/prog record. It flirts with the edges of metal but is catchy and psyched out enough that fans of psych rock and classic prog will find plenty to dig into here. They have a real knack for composition on this record that was only hinted at on their previous albums. The songs are real songs, and they grow in a really interesting way. Tons of killer riffs, solos and licks to dig into as well.

Ruins of Beverast - Exuvia is a great doomy black metal record. They use tribal rhythms and slower tempos to build a dark and sinister atmosphere, and consistently play with the boundaries of black, death and doom metals. There are great riffs, tons of great drumming, and a general atmosphere that sticks throughout the record. I can't stop listening to it, and would highly recommend it to any fans of extreme metal.

I also liked the new Fleet Foxes after one listen.

Jason Isbell is as Jason Isbell does. More of the same country rock with nods to the Eagles and John Prine. If you liked Southwestern, you'll like The Nashville Sound. Clue's in the title.

Fleet Foxes continues to be just "eh" for me. They usually have a song or two I enjoy but never really like any of their albums all the way through. New one is no different.

Royce da 5'9 just dropped Bar Exam 4... still showing to be one of the best lyricists out there.

I really dig the new Kevin Morby album.

Institute - Subordination is also a lot of grungy-punk fun.

ALSO - there's going to be a new Dream Syndicate album this year and they've got a single out that's a total jam

Jex Opolis's Ravines is a groovy house album. Great for lounging. Will give this lots of play over the summer.

Si Begg's Bluepint is my favorite album this year so far. Excellent at home listening with lots of depth. Fans of S U R V I V E but want more edge will appreciate this. Next level imo.

Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires have released Youth Detention overnight. Loud, raucous, and much better produced than previous albums, it's Lee's typical politically-charged melodic punk. For me, in these crazy times, it might be the most essential release of the year. Loving it after one play. 17 tracks of perhaps his most immediately accessible songs since There Is A Bomb in Gilead.

The new Floating Points record, Reflections - Mojave Desert, is a stunningly beautiful post-rock record. An area 2017 seems to be lacking in so far.

I feel dirty even mentioning the name, but the new Calvin Harris album is the first of his I've ever been able to stomach. "Slide" is straight up fantastic, my favorite Frank Ocean song in years. The rest of it is fairly generic, but in a pleasant put-it-on-in-the-background barbeque and pool party way (good timing on the release, Calvin). If we had to have to have him headline, I wish it'd been with this album, just for the off chance that the new sound would lead to a more interesting show.

In the totally opposite direction, the new National track sounds like they're making a Kid A track. They seem to be expanding sonically more than in previous albums; I can't wait to hear the rest of it.

White Reaper's "The World's Best American Band" is one of my favorite releases of this year (their first release was called "White Reaper Does It Again" so they certainly don't lack confidence).

It's very derivative, but is pure proof that you can still make magic with a melody, two guitars, a bass, and drums. Some of the tracks are borderline glam, but mostly a straight forward rock and roll record sure to soundtrack your 4th of July barbecues and every pre-game you host for the foreseeable future. It sounds good hanging around listening to, great driving to, and amazing drinking to.

Couple of EPs came out last week that are pretty good. Rulle's "Rival" and Transviolet's "Kaleidoscopes"

This Jay-Z album has fantastic beats. I was never a big fan of his, but this album is great.

I listened to this today, after being inspired by my younger brothers playing a couple tracks at a pool party yesterday. It's groovy, digestible, pop music. The track that Nicki Manaj is on isn't great.

I've been really enjoying the debut album, Sirens and Slumber, from the new bay area post-metal band Mountaineer. The band was started by ex-guitarist of Secrets of the Sky, for those in the know...Anyways they have an prog-shoegaze sound to most of their tracks, with sludgy guitars paired with light-airy vocals. Here's one of their tracks from the album, check it:

"Money can't give what the truth takes away."

I couldn't agree more, so good to have them back. Loved the song emily takes the lead on especially.

Not terribly keen on the new Waxahatchee on first play, I have to say. Much poppier sound. Couple of absolute clunkers lyrically.
