Make sure he has a cell phone. There are LOTS of security folks there. If he has any problems at all, make sure he contacts one of them & they can help him out and/or call you if needed. There is a first aid place he can get in touch with, and any of the festival employees I'm sure will help. Finally, if he doesn't have a cell phone, have him borrow someone else's so he can keep in touch with you.

They encourage parents to use the drop-off spot, but my experience is that if you don't mind waiting in the line of cars, just take him right to the festival grounds, then leave from there.

Better yet - get yourself a ticket & join the great music fest!

Bensmom~ Now, keep in mind...I'm a 46 year old female who doesn't have kids but, I admit to being sceptical the first year I went to Coachella. (This will be my 5th year now!) I'm into concerts and have been to many, including OZZFEST, MOTOGRATER, etc...Seen afew "mosh-pits" from time to time, as well as the extras like drugs, drinking, etc...I can reassure you that, if Ben has a level head on his shoulders, loves a vast array of music, and enjoys a huge, yet one of the friendliest group of people to share it with....COACHELLA will leave a lasting and positive imprint upon his mind for a long time...He'll make new friends from various parts of the country, if not the world...So, chill out, don't worry, and perhaps next year...You'll be joining him in one of the best music festivals in the Northern United States!

I'm going today...got a ticket, but may not get there until 5 or 6. Leaving at 3ish from LA. Can't my husband to leave any earlier. (Look for me with the pink backpack.)

We've taken him to clubs, and he does avoid the mosh pit!

Guess I'm driving in with him this afternoon. I just am not looking forward to driving late. What's the best surface streets back to PS? (Might be too tired to drive on freeway.)

Actually I needed the best route from PS to Coachella. Those long stretches of road get me sleepy. (This afternoon, I get to drop off dad/ husband at the hotel, then I drive kid to Festival...I am attending.

ah ok....take I-10 to Hwy 111 turnoff (Palm Springs). Continue on CA-111 SOUTH until you get to Indio.
Turn Right on JEFFERSON ST - go 1.5 mi
Turn Left on AVENUE 50 - go 2.0 mi
Turn Right on MONROE ST - go 0.5 mi
Turn Right on 51ST AVE - go 0.2 mi
Arrive at 81800 AVENUE 51, INDIO, on the Right

Some streets may have restrictions, in which case just follow the signs & traffic flow.

I shoulda had you turn on Washington instead of Jefferson. I turned on Jefferson & waited probably an extra hour in traffic.

Yah, Jefferson is pretty insane...Washington is another alternative,as well as Monroe...Or, even going further down the freeway to Jackson, going to Avenue 52 and then heading back west... Either way, with 50,000 people, there's bound to be a snarl up...Worth any wait though...
