Take a light coat, cuz it gets a bit chilly there.
I can't thank you enough for this, it was cold as fuck and I was only going to wear shorts and a t-shirt but because of this I brought jeans and a thermal. I arrived around 2pm just before SMD did their soundcheck. I got the pulled pork sandwich and drank a couple IPAs while watching that and then went back to my car to nap after checking out pioneertown. I saw guedita, getbetter and co. inside eating dinner but the fungus had me feeling anti-social. Earth were cool, I'm not sure if I've ever seen someone drum so slowly. I started tripping hard towards the end of their set. SMD were spectacular from start to finish, there were only a couple minor hiccups where they would drop a loop at the wrong time or drop the wrong loop altogether. I really enjoyed the songs they played after the short pause/before the encore. The crowd near me was decent, everybody was dancing and having a good time despite the cold. I stopped peaking shortly after the set ended but I still just hung out in my car for awhile to make sure then drove home around 2am.
Thank you for making the trip out to Pioneertown for our show at Pappy & Hariet’s on April 26th. We had a lot of fun doing it, and hope you did watching it. We’re announcing the release of “Whorl” tomorrow but since you came out to the desert to attend the show and witnessed the creation of this album we wanted to present you with an exclusive pre-order offer.
We’re making a limited number of orange colored vinyl for “Whorl” and wanted to give you the first crack at it, as a thank you for attending the show. There are only 1,000 copies being pressed and once they’re gone, they’re gone - so you are all getting the chance to grab one of these before they go on general sale. As well as the LP on double colored vinyl, the package also includes the album on CD, and a special limited edition blotter art print, signed by James & Jas. There's also the option to buy a t-shirt with the blotter art design.
I wanted to say high but I wasn't sure if you guys were with IRL friends or if they were other boardies. And I didn't want to come up and be like "I know you from the internet and I'm tripping balls right now!". You and I have crossed paths many a times over the last couple years but there has never really been an opportunity for introductions or one of us is so fucked up that it would be pointless to do so. Most recently I shared a joint with you during Factory Floor's set at Coachella. I promise that next time I see you I will say hi regardless of how inebriated you or I am!
This is the "Synth Rocks" t-shirt. I feel like it is such a perfect representation of the show!
wanted to go tonight, a Sergio Leone inspired cowboy band, but that's what happens when you have a bad date. Got ticket for the Desert Stars Festival Saturday night with Mark Gardener of Ride and The Shivas. Miranda Lee Richards who recorded with BJM. The princess of the desert Jessica Von Rabibt. Dandy Warhols. Should be pretty dood.
The pilgrimage is not perfected save by copulation with the camel.
This should be a great show. Is it really only 300 people? Awesome. And with the rerelease of long drive and crowded west on vinyl, there's an outside shot for edit the sad parts. Please.
Yeah, that's definitely a good idea! That's what they say... but the Pixies show there was sold out and it actually felt like a little less. Is it your first time there? You're gonna absolutely love it. I live pretty close, yet it still always feels like a magical, far away place.
Very true! I'd lose it if they played that song... It looks like they played Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset recently, that would be awesome too. Though I think my ultimate request would be Night On The Sun.
The played "Trailer Trash" at Sasquatch a few years ago and I almost jumped out of my skin when it began. To be honest, nearly any Lonesome Crowded West song will do that to me though.
But yeah, super jealous of those who got to see Modest Mouse at Pappy & Harriets. Can't wait to hear how the show was.

A very fun time last night. The place is great, the weather was perfect, and the staff and crowd were all nice and friendly. The band sounded great as well. Isaac came out in this ridiculous cowboy like outfit complete with chaps and everything and seemed to be in a good mood. I was just a little underwhelmed by the set list. Better luck to everyone else. Night on the sun was the clear highlight. There was too much float on and dashboard. Dashboard has got to be the worst song by anybody ever. I think cockroach, Dramamine, and interstate were some other classics also in there. The new songs were just eh.
I thought the show was pretty awesome, although the crowd was pretty awful in spots (lots of underage drunk people it seemed). Setlist was mostly pretty top notch (I don't mind Float On or Dashboard, and the band does a good job with them live). Really liked Dramamine and Cockroach, as well as the songs they played at the encore. Lots of folks were screaming for Cowboy Dan so maybe Isaac was trolling by deciding not to play that (especially since he was dressed as a cowboy).
Overall an awesome show though, and the sound was great.
Though I think my ultimate request would be Night On The Sun.
Hearing this was so amazing!! God damn. They also played Broke (!), Out Of Gas, Baby Blue Sedan..... Very good show. Isaac's voice seemed a little shot though. And it seems they're touring with a couple new members this time around. Hearing World At Large with violins was so nice. But i do agree about the crowd being pretty horrible. I mean I kinda expected it but I had to leave my spot like 2 rows back and center because I couldn't take it anymore. Incessant loud conversations and moshing. Once I went to the back it was all good though.
