Not worth it. Guest pass is the one to get, but you couldnt afford it anyway.

you get the side tents in one area...woo hoo

you get closer to main stage for early shows...late shows everyone jumps em...

If you got extra money to burn...yep it's worth it

VIP is worth it for me just for the close parking and dedicated entry.

The extra food options (& short lines) are cool too.

The best part was sitting in VIP having a beer and watching AF when Win went off on VIP. I mean, I agreed with him, the place was full of douchebags. But I was enjoying my beer and watching the set at the same time. That's tough to do in GA.

It was probably a fluke, but the last time I did GA parking, I was stuck in the lots for hours at the end of two out of three nights. Spending extra money for VIP seems insane, but the easy parking, dedicated entry, and easy exit really feels worth it at the end of the night. Other than that, the "perks" are minimal.

(I had a photo pass (again) this year got a close look at the artist/guest holding pens -- even they looked kind of wretched at times with stampedes of people squeezing, shoving, and loudly proclaiming their importance to get in and out during some of the big shows.)

if you're lazy the walk is shorter to enter the festival and getting in is super fast. the porta potties were always clean and with no wait.. but they are still porta potties (my friends with ga had to wait 30 minutes in line to go to a disgusting port potty). There are also more food options and a little bit better. There is a full bar with fancy mixed drinks too, not just beer. Also there is a ton of shade if you can't stand the heat along with fans and ample seating. The con is that it's almost 3x the price for only 2 vip sections with not even a better view of stages. but it is def fun to people watch in there.

VIP isn't worth that extra cost compared to GA

I got free VIP upgrade on day thanks to SAMSUNG and enjoyed it.
The VIP bathrroms are garbage..porta potties and even the trailers.
ROSE GARDEN BATHROOMS ARE ALL TIME AMAZING but only those.
VIP is where you can see bored rich people, hasbeen-celebs, and real celebs before they dip out to the all-access only areas.
Food lines are much shorter than GA food lines.

Dude from arcade fire said it best "they want to make it seem like something's going on back there that you're missing, we'll you aren't missing anything"
The rose garden was also the only place you could get a decent spot to chill out during peak hours.

Like I said, for free? FUCK YEAH.
    paying extra $300 FUCK NO

if they do a price adjustment or actually make VIP somewhat VIP status then HELL YEAH

VIP parking is extra from VIP wristband.
and I DID NOT HAVE VIP PARKING but parked IN the VIP lot everyday of the fest.

you just have to arrive before 2:30pm and they put you in that lot anyway. 1a and 1b
    it's a very short walk.
VIP entrance MAY or MAY NOT be more lax. it depends.
Some days I was able to take in closed water bottles.
every day of the fest I was able to take in a huge dangerous Multi-tool and a small knife.
but everyday they bitched about my rolling papers. and only on day one did they take my weed from me.

So this was my first year doing VIP and I loved it. I don't think I'll ever go back. But I think the value is really dependent on the person. What you're paying for is (way) better food options, (way) better cocktail options, convenience, clean bathrooms with no lines whatsoever, and beautiful places to have some downtime in. So if you don't give a shit about food and you never rest between sets, it'd be a total waste of money.

There is a new VIP area behind the Gobi, and I got the sense that it is only half-finished. It's like some bars and food stands on concrete under a tent. Outstanding in the Field was supposed to be there and wasn't, and it wasn't even open the first day, so my guess is they didn't get their shit together and the full area will either be open next year or W2 this year. I expect over time it will extend into the gardens directly adjacent to it (and I think that's where OITF was supposed to be).

What was great about it, though, is that it connected to a behind-the-scenes passageway that connected to the Rose Garden, which made the Rose Garden easy to get to even if the Sahara was out of control, and also offered a great escape route (like after Royksopp).

It never felt too crowded, even by the main stage at night. The entrance is so convenient from the shuttles, there's no line, you pretty much walk right in.

The people were primarily great. I heard bad things about it and was expecting a lot of "social media superstar" bullshit behavior, but for the most part it seemed like older than average attendees, many of whom were in the music business. We didn't meet one asshole, and met a lot of very mellow and nice people.

The expanded beer gardens by the main stage made watching sets from the VIP area ridiculously easy. We watched some of Porter/Madeon from there, and I kept thinking what a great view it would be for a show you really wanted to see.

Anyway, it wouldn't be worth the money for a lot of people, but since my wife and I really enjoy food, always have a couple periods of downtime and were tired of the insanity of the main beer gardens, and we like convenience, it was worth it for us.

First year I saw a list of items other than water you can win with recycling. Was debating collecting 1200 bottles and can for next year. Curious to see how they count all those bottles and cans though. that can take a while.

travelfan hit the nail on the head - it all depends on what kind of Coachella goer you are.

I was going to switch back to GA this year after a couple years of VIP but got an upgrade from a buddy with a connection. This year felt less crowded than the last couple years in VIP - maybe because of the third area spreading people out? The third area was disappointingly not open on the first day and on the second day still seemed like a work in progress.

If you race around from show to show and food/drinks are something you consume as possible to get back in a tent, it's totally not worth it. If you don't mind taking an hour off and part of your Coachella experience is enjoying the food/drink selections, then it's probably worth it. Best thing I ate all weekend was a ramen bowl in the Rose Garden VIP, most comfortable moment of the weekend was in the new VIP area having a couple designer cocktails and having a chat with my good buddy who flew in for Coachalla who I only see a couple times a year. There was nothing I was dying to see from 4:30-5:30 on Sunday so we lounged in the shade on couches and drank good drinks; that's heresy to a lot of people on these boards, but for me if I'm on the grounds 30-35 hours over three days, I need a couple hours like that.

As TF mentioned, entrances/exits also big pluses and allowed us to pull off getting to Mitski's set in time by shaving off 10-15 mins from our entrance.

Yeah we had an hour and a half block on Sunday afternoon too, and my wife and I had some of the best poke I've ever had and some amazing cocktails (the Woodley Proper stand is the shit!) in the Rose Garden, and were in some couches in the shade. We caught up, had a nice relaxing moment as a couple, met some cool people, and left refreshed and ready to go for our marathon Sunday night.

If the scenarios Silver and I mentioned sound like heaven, then VIP is worth it for you. If they sound like, "Well that's a waste of time", then not at all.

I got a free VIP wristband through a band this year and though it was cool having, it is in no way, shape, or form worth and extra $500 on top of the $400 GA price. I'd rather buy a 2nd GA band for that price to make sure one less person was in the fest tbh
