a good number of these acts will likely play to smallish crowds. A half empty tent is one thing ... a few hundred people dancing inside a cavernous arena strikes me as probably just awkward

yeah, though w a crowd 20x the size of what the dance acts at fyf will draw.

I experienced it a few times at Moogfest in Asheville, it's not as awkward as you'd think. Especially if it's pretty dark.

I am absolutely not worried about the crowd being "too small"

I'm not worried, per say, but I understand what Ross is saying. Saying that arena has worked for Ratatat and Daft Punk misses the point -- those are entirely different dance acts than the likes of Daniel Avery & Jamie XX. How many people can fit on the floor in there? Maybe they'll have the seats blocked off or something.

Fuck going inside to see an act that's before the headliner then. Getting out might take too long.

Apparently the floor is 38,000 square feet, so it's pretty huge. I'd like at least the lowest tier of seat to be open though, it'd make a great place to come inside and take a break during the day and still be able to listen to music.

Probably thinks its a giant pain to get down to the arena floor and back out. When all you have to do is go down the escalator and back up. Hopefully theres multiple entry points and not a bottleneck type of situation when it does get crowded there.

Oh, and I cant go back and quote, but the turnstiles making it impossible for free rail service? For HARD last year, they had a metro employee specifically assigned at the entrances of stations to let you in through one of the turnatiles if you were attending the festival. You let em know and show them your ticket, and you went through. But yes, its really just for Sunday getting longer service hours.

Wow, okay. I was thinking this happened before the turnstiles so people could flash their tickets to Metro employees. That seems crazy to me that they did that, but that's cool.

Also, where are we meeting for pre-fest drinks this year?

I would like to offer up CITY TAVERN as an option. They have good food and a great beer selection, and a nice-sized outdoor patio. The whole place is pretty big in general. It opens at 11am and it's basically next to the 7th/Metro Center station, where we can all greab the Expo line to the fest.

Coming from Pasadena/Glendale, it looks like park downtown (my office is at 1st/Fig) and then Silver Line is my best option. Can anyone share their experiences on this as an option?

I have not used the Silver Line. It is a bus and not a train, FYI. I am sure it works fine and it looks like it goes directly to the where the show is though.

Yeah, it looks like it catches the freeway just south of the 10 and the first stop is the coliseum and lets you off above the freeway on the same level as the HOV lane.

We don't know. The past couple years there have been 3 stages and a tent. Until we see a map we don't know if that has changed or not.

Should be enough space for 4. And the format might be similar to last year with the main stage starting much later. A good gauge would be the festival happening at the same location this weekend. You assume most ofthe infrastructure gets used the very next week.

So Uforia apparently has only 2 stages, and the second one only has a couple acts early in the day - but it is reasonable to think that they would keep the same main stage up.

Also, I found myself on the Exposition Park website looking up Uforia info, and saw they had a page for fyf. i do not know if this is in any way accurate, but this page is saying that the estimated amount of attendees is 40,000 people

    http://www.expositionpark.org/fyf

Of course, as we have talked about on this board before, that could mean over the course of both days, meaning 20,000 per day.

More info. Here is a map of Expo park to give people an idea. According to the Expo Park website, Uforia is being held on the South Lawn. So i wonder if it's possible FYF will stretch all the way from the Sports Arena to there. i imagined it would be happening south of the Coliseum, but I guess we don't really know until we see a festival map.
