Not too sure about special events parking (esp since it's an event unaffiliated with USC itself), but I think another alternative to parking directly at the venue is to find neighborhood parking north of campus between Jefferson Blvd and Adams, so you can walk to the Metro Expo line on Flower/23rd, which will take you right to Expo Park. The area there is almost all student off-campus housing, so relatively safe and actually walkable if you don't want to deal with the Expo. Since the semester starts that Monday after FYF, I'm sure you'll be joined by a lot of students on their way to/from the fest. The parking might be a little tight, but at least it's free.

I would definitely avoid parking in the immediate area if at all possible and try to park near a Metro station if it is at all possible.

I'm always sketchy about parking in the USC area for a number of reasons. Usually I'll suck up and pay a hefty parking fee (like for Shrine shows), but for two days, I might do the Metro. I've never ridden the Expo line before, so is it pretty quick and painless if I ride it from Culver City?

Yes, the ride is about 20 minutes. You will pay a one time fee of $1 for a plastic card that you keep and fill with money when you want to use it. The ride will be $1.50 each way, so you can buy the card and put $6 on it at the same time and then not need to worry about dealing the machine the rest of the weekend. Just tap the cad on the little thing each time you get on the train and you are good to go. it is an above ground light rail train as well.

Also, the parking lot is big and free for your car.

You guys must have super nice cars that people break into, or just really assume the areas not safe. Park on vermont at a parking meter ( which lasts all day ) for probably $5 at the most ( depending when you arrive ) and walk 10 mins to the fest.

I just think the area is going to be a huge clusterfuck during the festival and it will be much less stressful to just take the train in.

But this costs more than the Metro option, really only saves maybe 5 minutes or so, and has the added disappointment of driving in post-festival traffic. Metro is the way to go.

Cool, thanks. I've ridden the Metro before, just not that particular line, though I'm not sure my card is still lying around anywhere.

I think parking at the venue and surrounding parking lots is $20 and its a clusterfuck getting out, Ive parked on the side streets in the area for free and walked a few blocks to the venue too. Its kinda sketch but not as bad as people think.

It all depends on if you wanna pay for parking or not.

I'm thinking about trading a 2 day pass for a Saturday only plus the difference in cost. I'm located in San Francisco. Message me if you're interested.

Thanks so much for the heads up, Chris!

This totally makes an otherwise shitty, shitty week soooo much better.

Thank God. Now I just hope that they didn't OVERSELL tickets (although I'm assuming they've had these extra passes set aside knowing they'll release them later if the fest sold out).

I've never been to FYF, so I don't know how crowded it gets, but it's sounding like it'll be their most crowded year just based on the popularity its gained.

I feel like I've read that this year's location has a smaller capacity than last year's, but I can't find any of that sort of information. Yo Bumblebee, where you at?

Ahhh...I committed to do a work event on Saturday the 23rd because I didn't get tickets during the initial sale. I immediately snatched up 2 tickets when they went on sale today - I am so ridiculously stoked that I now have tickets. I'm going to have to skip out of work early on Saturday and hopefully get to the venue around 4 or 5 pm. This will be my first FYF fest...can't wait!
