It's not a bad lineup, but I'm a little annoyed I'm suddenly able to go this year when my work schedule wasn't free the previous two years, which looked much better. That and the only acts I haven't already seen that look really tantalizing are Tom Petty and Spoon. I think I'll pass this year, but I'm hoping this means Spoon, Death Cab, and Lykke Li will have more west coast dates around that time.

Now we are getting to the point where the number of acts I want to see at a major music festival is in the single digits.

It seems that way with the big festivals recently. Seems like the smaller niche ones (Pitchfork, Moog, Austin Psych Fest, etc) are the way to go for more interesting lineups for those who've been going to a lot of concerts and festivals.

Could not agree more. I loved '12 and '13, but this year is not for me.

I was wondering why the rap undercard was so weak...surprised they couldn't get Danny.

I mean Kanye and Run The Jewels are awesome gets, but I was hoping for a bit more from them this year in terms of hip-hop.

I love this undercard, really dont know how some of you don't like it but festivals this year have kind of been weak in general. There is a lot of quality in this lineup, from top to bottom. Going to be fucking awesome and can't wait to hang out in San Fran.

I counted 18 bands or artists who I'd really like to see, plus Death Cab For Cutie who I've seen before and could put up with. Add to that, several I've never heard of, and that doesn't include any of the headliners. Over 3 days? That's a pretty damn great ratio for me.

Yep. Cara pretty much nailed it a bit ago:

"People who celebrate 2014 festival lineups seem to be really impressed by the idea of seeing acts that they could have seen plenty of times in the last few years."

We have the corporate entities concerned with the bottom line that have taken over all of the festivals to thank for that.

Despite the diverse leaks, it's still a somewhat guitar heavy lineup. I think this is how it will always be. I can quite see why some hip hop fans would feel let down. That said, I'm not a hip hop fan by and large.

People on the Facebook page are throwing hissy fits of seethe and hate and rage. I have no concerns at all if this doesn't sell out. I'm going and there's plenty for me to see and discover.

Seriously to all the people that like this undercard I encourage you to look at the 2012 lineup.

Last year there were 72 bands playing on the four main stages. There are 70 bands on the 2014 poster. Figure that you can add one more spot due to Macca's long set time, and we are only looking at about 3 open spots.

Surely that depends on where you live and how often you can afford to go to gigs?

    I love the lineup!

I am sure it will be Petty on Friday, Kanye on Saturday and Killer on Sunday.

If I am able to go, I will enjoy the music, the awesome food and Golden Gate Park (one of my favorite places on earth).

Plus finally see my all-time favorite rapper, Ye himself.

I think the lineup is pretty damn good, even if it's a bit of a let down.

Thanks for letting us know how poor your taste in music is and your eagerness to support such shitty music festival lineups.

I wouldn't be going to Coachella if I had to pay for my ticket.

Ticket prices posted. There is a tier of $255 tickets and then they jump to $275. Really glad I got early bird but still not sure if this is enough to get me to go.

I'm selling my ticket! I like the lineup, but not enough to pay for a ticket, hotel, and airfare (the people I'm going with decided they want to fly instead of drive).

Just remember that just because you aren't familiar with a band, doesn't mean that they're weak. I'm very excited for this year! Undercard is really great.

I can see why out of towners are not impressed. It's not a lineup I would travel even an hour away for. But as a local this is entertaining enough.

Yeah, the big festivals try to have a little bit of something for everybody which turns everything more generic. The smaller festivals that try to cater to a certain crowd are able to focus on certain genres to make those people happy.

That's why headliners are kinda big deal, because otherwise you are better off just seeing the undercard bands when they come to your town and do a proper show. Petty and Kanye are probably $60 tickets each for me to go see them out in Oakland or San Jose which is a pain in the ass, so to be able to see them a half mile from my house is a big selling point for me.

As an out of towner I enjoy getting to hang out in San Fran + the festival. I don't just come only for the festival, San Frans fucking awesome.
