Tons of the predictions on the Lolla board include Pearl Jam as the #1 headliner. They last headlined Lolla in '07, which was a fantastic show. Does anybody have an insight on why so many folks think this will happen?
I'm planning on driving Dallas-St. Louis-Chicago for Lolla anyhow, but Pearl Jam as a #1 would make it extra crispy for me.
While hunting Hotwire for a hotel near Grant Park for Lollapalooza (7/31/14-8/3/14), I happened upon a 4* for $174 in Millenium Park-Grant Park, and decided to take the plunge.
The amenities are:
Pool (yes, repeated)
Self service laundry
The win was the Swissotel Chicago, which features King and two Double rooms, and it's about a mile or less from the Lollapalooza gates at Grant Park. For those who don't use Hotwire, generally you can call the hotel and request the type of beds you prefer after the room is purchased. Not always, but nearly always in my experience, this isn't an issue.
So, if you're headed out to the Lollapalooza festival - this is a great deal $35 less/night than the discount on the Lollapalooza website. For those who have never attended the festival, finding a nice hotel under $200 within 1.5 miles of Grant Park is a nice situation. The walk back after the show ends is kind of epic, tens of thousands of drunk Midwesterners roaming the streets of Chicago. It's one of my favorite memories of my Lolla trips.
You wont be disappointed with Lolla/Chicago........... Way better food and different vibe/atmosphere. The Line-Up alone should clarify the greatness of Chicago!
The smell and people chanting along Michigan Ave after the shows are amazing........... yep the walk back to the Hotel rules!
Lolla is full of drunks who buy tickets blind not because they have confidence in the lineup but because "it's lolla bro" and they don't give a fuck who plays. There's no shade anywhere and the music ends at ten, just as the temperature gets manageable.
That said, the lineup is generally good for the price, and the after shows are good if you can get tickets.
They actually release the lineup before tickets go on sale. But even so, it has a gigantic demographic of 21 year olds and under. Fortunately, most of them pretty much spend all they're time at Perrys stage(the edm stage). So you can find a little bit of refuge from them.
They basically all come down to grantpark from the suburbs to get wasted. EDM has pretty helped every festival turn douchey. Its basically bridged the gap between the hardcore music fan and the casual fan. Now we all get to hangout all weekend...fuck ya!
If your major concern with a festival is manageable heat and number of trees... maybe Coachella isn't for you? LOL.
Edit: To be fair, I misread that dude's post. I thought he said "way better food, vibe, atmosphere" when the "way better" was just wrt the food. I like Lolla just fine, but doing it in Grant Park has serious drawbacks for me.

fuck...i'm at Lolla this year. especially if they get something similar to that + Timberlake.
11/21 - Pearl Jam - Viejas Arena
So who are the other 2 ''headliners'' if you put Timberlake, Outkast, Jack White (again) and Arctic Monkeys up top? Unless Nick Cave gets prime billing, but more likely Lou Reed a few years ago. Coldplay would be likely.
Jack White isn't coming back. I expect Pearl Jam to be the #1 overall headliner.
Also not sold on JT since Yeezus is playing Fuji Rock and Lolla usually shares a headliner with that fest.
why Pearl Jam? and why not JT and Kanye?
put that list into the Osheaga lineup guess game and only got 77%
11/21 - Pearl Jam - Viejas Arena
JT, Kanye and Outkast would be a lot of hip hop and pop for Lolla. I could see Lolla getting two out of three, but that's it. As for Pearl Jam a reliable source on the Lolla board who posted about their Wrigley show last summer far in advance said that were in talks to end their summer tour at Lolla.
What about Tool? New album this year and they haven't played since 2009.
December 10 - Children of Bodom/Abbath
December 16 - 18 - Day For Night
January 30 - Sleep
July 3 - Roger Waters
That list seems to be missing Fun. who will most likely be billed pretty high.
