I saw them a number of times but I think my fav show was here in Denver at The Family Dog. The few dayz b4 we had seen The FUGS which just fit perfect for a trippy week it ended up. We went, tripped and just figured, sure they were a fun band, but then Frank took off on the guitar. I had seen a bunch of the rock guitarist but never one so jazz infused (well cept John M when he was doing Birds of Fire). They said Jimi made love to his guitar. Not sure what I would say about Frank, but he and his guitar were one. They were sort of a precursor to bands like the FLIPS,GWAR I think, just musically better. Orange barrels, early 20's, Zappa: What more could I have asked for in those dayz. cr****

They'll save it for the Kanye album, or The National. Or even Random Access Memories.
I'd be shocked if they gave Daft a 9.0+. That's traditionally not a hype machine Pitchfork contributes to. Vampire Weekend is well on its way to a 9 with 3 for 3 on BNT for the singles.
Haha you are right, thought about that as I was listening to the album last night. Silly me. And after a few spins I'd be shocked if they gave it a 9+. It's a fine album but it's nothing amazingly transcendent.
I listened to this last night. They certainly have a lot of energy. I don't know. I'll listen to it again on better headphones while air-punching things and make my final decision.

Haha, never thought I'd see the day when Thurston would give Tegan & Sara props...
https://rollingstoneme.com/index.php...rticle&id=3103What do you make of current indie rock, like Vampire Weekend, The National or Spoon?
I'm totally open to it. I give a listen here or there. But I don't have much to say about it. Vampire Weekend just made a record that everyone says is great, and I'm really glad to hear that! [Laughs] But I don't know their music that well. I heard their first record and thought it was kind of interesting. But I tend to go for much more outsider kind of sounds and approaches. The band that made me think they had it going on was this all-girl band from London called Savages. I saw a couple of their gigs and totally dug it. It hit a lot of the marks that have always resonated with me – the early Rough Trade sound, Joy Division, early Swell Maps.
And I'm a sucker for Tegan and Sara. Chelsea Light Moving opened for them at SXSW this year and I was like, "Wow, all these young chicks here to see us." And as we played, they were all looking at their phones and I thought, "This is the most disinterested audience I've ever played for in my life." Then Tegan and Sara came out and destroyed the place. The audience put their phones down and sang along on every song. I have nothing but respect for any band that does that.
oh right. I was thinking another venue in Barcelona.
And now theyre supporting queens of the stone age on their fall tour, damn.
