We were in lot 4 as well. Not only thorns, but 2 different areas infested with fire ants! I have bites all over my feet. You could not walk around barefoot at all. Cuts all over the bottom of my feet from the first day. And the worst part about it, was friends who arrived after us got awesome spots in lot 8. It was a really nice fuck you from Goldenvoice for being loyal 6 year customers and coming as early as we possible could from San Francisco.

yea my friend suggested that they actually filled in holes in the ground with sand in order to hide something. there were red ants underneath my friends tent. luckily he had a tarp but we left the tarp there once we were done cuz it had hundreds of ants all over it.

My crew took the dreaded "left lane" out of the prime Lot 8 spots mid Thursday (week1) and where herded into the Game of Thorns. Ended up in North 156th in Lot 4. Great people, in the lot, but that was by far THE WORST EVER camping experience of all my 6yrs camping onsite (no camping back in 99) at Coachella. Everyone in my group had bleeding feet at least once. The only good thing about that lot since I was a late Friday arrival as a companion car parker, was the proximity to the companion car lot. To pass the time we played, "who can pick up the most thorns from inside the tent?" all day long.

My friend and i got sent into lot 4 as well, we were setting up the tent when we heard our neighbor complain, she was barefoot and had thorns all over her feet poor girl. That night when we came back we kept getting bitten, but the people next to us were fine. when i woke up in the morning i noticed thorns in my arms, and fire ants in the tent! my friends foot was swollen and covered in puss filled bumps and bits, she had a terrible allergic reaction to the bites it was only friday morning and i knew she would't be able to survive camping through monday morning. so i had to book a hotel for double the price and double the distance, and we got out of there; such a waste of money.

the only negative for our weekend was lot 4. negatives should be reserved for unforeseen problems that pop up out of nowhere. not something as simple as shitty grass.

we showed up before they let people in on thursday for the 2nd weekend and we had a nice group of 5 cars with us our car was the last one to be searched so when we passed by the group lineup they shuffled all our friends to the front so they could exit and follow us to the greatest spot ever right in front of the ferris wheel and entrance!

Note for 2014: I was in the back of lot 10. There were a SHITLOAD of empty spaces at the east end. Someone could have easily moved their car to that lot later in the day on Friday. I know that doesn't fix last week, nor would it eliminate your issues the first 1.5 days, but if you are frustrated next year, check around for open spots in other areas.

BTW, those thorns have ruined many pairs of Nike Air running shoes (@ $130/pair) for me at home. They literally puncture the sole and let the 'air' escape.

The goatheads and ants were terrible, but I will chalk those up to nature. The lack of showers was insulting. The persistent line to use the poorly maintained toilets is inexcusable. The ball was dropped in a big way. This lot was not a proper representation of what has kept me coming back to the festival for 8 years.

We got stuck in Lot 4 even though we were pretty early arriving on Thursday weekend one. All week leading up to weekend two I was dreading getting stuck there again. Such a shithole.

I felt bad for everyone in there just from walking through to go to the market shuttles. That shit was straight up dirt and dead grass.
