maybe we'll get lucky and darkside closes the music hall
So unfortunately I won't be able to go this year so I have two wristbands for sale, $150 each or $300 for both. Please pass this on to anyone you know that might be interested. THANKS!
Do not miss Zola Jesus and JG Thirlwell. Saw them tonight and it was incredible.
The schedule is being released tomorrow
I am excited the schedule is being release tomorrow, but also terrified. I want to see nearly half the acts on the line up, so I am definitely prepared for conflicts... however, scheduling NMH vs Deltron 3030 or Disclosure vs Cut Copy would be especially heartbreaking. If I can see full sets from, NMH, Deltron, NIN, Disclosure, and Cut Copy, all other conflicts will be manageable.
got my wristbands today! Look forward to checking out the schedule tomorrow, ya Disclosure vs Cut Copy or NHM vs Deltron or NIN vs Zola would ruin my weekend.
U2: 6/28 @ United Center
Lollapalooza: 8/1 @ Grant Park
I would be very surprised and saddened if Disclosure and Cut Copy conflict. I do think there will be some overlap between NHM in the TWA and Deltron in the arena.
With just a quick look, I am good with the schedule.
I am just wondering who will play in the TBD space on Friday.
Deltron- Sparks and Zola- Gary Numan are my worse conflicts. Gonna go with Sparks and a full set from Zola. At least I can still see the last half of Numan. Sunday worked out basically perfect for me
Rudimental>Jessie Ware> Darkside>Disclosure>Cut Copy> The Orb
So much dancing
Looks way better than expected to me.
Neutral Milk Hotel
Robert DeLong (first half)
Nine Inch Nails
Autre Ne Veut
Jesse Ware (partial)
The Orb (partial end)
Well, I am glad my conflict fears of Deltron 3030 vs NMH and Disclosure vs Cut Copy didn't come true... but 15 minutes in between them worries me big time. I know they are in the same building, but how easy will it be to get from one to the other? I know earlier in the thread somebody said its less than a minute walk between the two entrances, but I imagine both NMH and Cut Copy will fill up fast. When the lower levels are filled, do they force people to the upstairs levels, or how does that work?
the only time i had to wait to get in to TWA was for four tet, and we went upstairs to start. took about 1 minute to get in.
i'm going to make a decision on what to do after daniel johnston depending on the crowd size in there. i'll either go to del for a quick minute, go see sparks or stay.
The arena won't fill up, but if you're worried about making it to the auditorium, I'd recommend moving to the second level of the arena a few minutes prior to the end of Deltron 3030 and Disclosure, so you can avoid the potential bottleneck on the ramps that lead up to the second floor of the civic center.
Aside from the overlap between Disclosure and Mount Kimbie on Sunday, the schedule looks great to me. I don't understand though, why the festival organizers don't start shows around 5 p.m. as was the case with Moogfest back in 2011. It seems like adding just an hour or two would alleviate a lot of conflicts others may be experiencing, but ah well, I'm stoked nonetheless.
What is the Thomas Wolfe like? Is the downstairs entirely seated? Or do they remove the seats on the bottom level to make room for more people/ allow for dancing? I hope it is the later.
Right now I'm planning on leaving Deltron 3030 ~15ish minutes early to get a good spot for NMH. I will play leaving for Cut Copy early by ear. By Sunday I figure I should have a good handle on how the crowds move between sets.
There's seats on both levels of the auditorium. They don't remove them, but I had plenty of space to dance during Squarepusher last year.
Anyone have any recommendations for food and drink downtown? Sadly, I didn't do much exploring of Asheville the past two years.
The Twisted Crepe across from the civic center on Haywood is good for a quick bite, though. :P
Just looked up some pictures of the auditorium... looks like there is a small GA area up front. Im guessing that will be pretty difficult to get into for most of the bigger sets. Hmmmm. I wish Cut Copy was in the arena.
EDIT: I also second food recommendations. I want some killer NC BBQ while I am in Asheville. Also, what are the best places to get beer?
Beer: Thirsty Monk, Wicked Weed, Wedge, Green Man, Asheville Brewing Company, Jack of the Wood, Hi Wire Brewing
Several of those places have great food too. ABC has an All You Can Eat Pizza buffet until 2pm during the week. And their pzza is bomb.
As far as the auditorium, theres no GA section per se, people just stand right up against the stage in front of.the front row of seats. I got up there for Miike Snow last year about 15 minutes before they started.
Only Mon - Friday unfortunately.
I'll meet you there Saturday and Sunday, we'll go halfsies.
Also, if anyone has a car, The Admiral in West Asheville is supposed to have amazing food. Only had dessert, which was spectacular.
Biscuithead and Sunny Point for breakfast, both in West Asheville.
Sparks conflicting with neutral milk hotel? Lame.
Speaking of breakfast a trip to one of Tupelo Honey locations is a must.
