Nobody put out a great album in 2014
I don’t have any questions about Honest as an album. It was and still is a great rap record. I just can’t find it in myself to give a shit after dude was found cheating on Ciara.
2014 has been a far worse year for people whining about music than actual music.

This writer's argument about great music in 2014 is tantamount to a self-proclaimed food critic eating nothing but stale cheetos, an uncooked onion, and hamburger meat for a year and proclaiming that food is over.

This to the fullest degree. At one point i used to love going to CoS for what I thought at the time was a great music website. Years go by and shit got worse. OP, you wanna see a change? Channel your tucker gumber and create the change yourself.

Also, why does CoS suddenly care about film? What? Couldn't attract enough eyes with music click-bait?

just for some context: roboto was championing Richie Hawtin being booked in the Yuma in '13 as if it was some sort of forward thinking, incredible booking, completely oblivious to the reality that Hawtin has been a laughingstock cheese ball Ibiza commercial act 99.9% of the time for the last 5 years (he fucking FORGOT his laptop/hard drive when he was slotted to play weekend 1 for fuck's sake) and this year he claims the only reputable name in music is Phantogram. So....

The War on Drugs and D'angelo aren't included in the bizarre list, so maybe they should just fuck off.

I am constantly surprised by the people that seem to give such a shit about what the media says about music. Do people not realize that these writers are just dipshits that are probably even weirder, antisocial, and more agoraphobic losers than even you are?

Pitchfork specifically IMO. I've noticed a trend where people use it for validation. "I told you Random Access Memories was good. Pitchfork gave it an 8.8!"

Look, I understand the oversaturation argument. I just disagree with it. If something is good, it doesn’t matter if it gets played a hundred thousand times an hour; it’s still good.
I'm not sure if the above is more stupid than the following, but it's close.

And it also means that literally none of 2014’s most popular records are unquestionable.
Cultural fragmentation is the best fucking thing. The greats of the past weren't as "unquestionable" as they seem. 2014 is a single year that's not even quite over and there isn't a person for whom there isn't more to explore if they so wish.

    Thank goodness.

And Bryan, I agree totally. I listened to 25 albums released this year. 25. And I can still name you three or four great records. There is still SO MUCH for me to explore if I so choose. It's insane to think none of those unheard by me are great. I'm sure lots are great.

One of my favorite CoS moments ever was when they were gauging the likelyhood of fake Coachella line-up posters and they put of the poster from 2005, assuming it was fake.
