    Knee-jerk reaction after first listen:

The first three tracks are insanely good. But then it kind of lags and merely holds serve until the wonderful final track. It will obviously be listened to tons more, so I'm excited to see how I feel after several solid listens.

I think it's very solid throughout. Wouldn't be surprised to see this on year-end lists.

Wouldn't be surprised to see this top many a year-end list. The wait was painful, but the album (so far, on track 3) is pure bliss.

Just finished it. Fuck yes, that was great. I thought for sure Loveless Shields was gone and that's why he kept scrapping these albums, but shockingly, they made the album you would've expected had it come out 20 years ago. Also, Bilinda's voice has completely retained its Loveless sound.

That said, you shouldn't expect Loveless; that was a once-in-a-lifetime record. This one is definitely more subdued, and meandering isn't the right word, because that would imply that there's wasted space, which there absolutely isn't, but compared to Loveless, it feels a little less sudden -- if that makes any sense. These are nitpicks, and I've only had one full listen, so this is just my first impression as well. Also, the last track is possibly the most sonically striking thing I've ever come across. Call me crazy (one probably should), but I'm saying it may come close to "Tomorrow Never Knows" in the pantheon of album closers.

It's not the huge step forward Loveless was. It's a refinement of that sound, a step towards more direct songwriting. The drums are a huge difference: the fact that they are played live gives this one much more of a strong bottom-end. I feel like the songs are more straightforward, in a good way. And yes, Wonder 2 is a truly jaw-dropping closer.

I really liked it on first listen. It's beautiful and very MBV. The last track seems like it is leftover from the jungle-sounding stuff that Kevin Shields had mentioned in past interviews.

The album feels like he is refining Loveless and, bit by bit, pushing things forward again. The last two tracks are amazing.

I can't even imagine the last song live. They should integrate the holocaust into it (even though it basically already is one).

They really aren't that loud. Also, find another name for the "holocaust", it's such hyperbolic faggotry.

They kind of are, especially when comparing them to other bands. I don't like the name either, but hey it's what most people know it as. Change it to sonic explosion? I think that sounds alright.

They weren't at Coachella anyway. I imagine it's quite different in an actual venue...
3/25 - Explosions in the Sky - Paramount Theater
    4/14 - Deerhunter - The Mohawk
    4/29 - 5/1 - Levitation - Carson Creek Ranch
5/16 - Four Tet + Ben UFO - Vulcan Gas Company

I've said it before I will say it again. MBV has nothing on Boris, and with this "Flood" tour, they will never compare. They are loud, but I just think it's a bit of hyperbole

Seen them in a venue, very close to the rail and by the soundboard

Huh, I didn't think Boris was particular loud when I saw them. That was a while ago though.

EDIT* I saw APTBS in the same venue and that was insanely loud.
