Do yourself a favor.
Do yourself a favor.
So well deserved... God forbid a conflict with Blur or Stone Roses!
THIS TOWN AINT BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US... AND IT AINT ME WHO'S GONNA LEAVE!
such a good get. why are they billed so low?
Most people are wrong about music.
I admit I only learned of these guys a couple of years ago when I saw them do the Ingmar Bergman play with Guy Maddin, but became a fan as a result. They're fantastic!
only got one album from them (No. 1 in Heaven from emusic) and haven't given enough of a thorough. Liking those first couple of tracks. Go so many places in the songs that it's hard to recall what happened before, but you know it was glammed up and sexy. Someone get me a tea refill downstairs.
Kevin Barnes owes these guys his entire career.
was thinking the same thing while listening to Reinforcements
I listened to them a bit in high school, I didn't know they had such an expansive career. I hadn't thought of these guys in forever.
Have heard some of my favorite bands cite them as an influence, but never gave them a listen for some reason. Which album should I start with Pot?
4/8 Drive Like Jehu @ The Glass House
5/1 Sleater-Kinney @ The Palladium
5/8 Stephin Merritt @ The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetary
Kimono My House- 70s
Angst In My Pants- 80s
Lil' Beethoven- 2000s
They have a huge catalog and you really can't go wrong. From glam to new wave to synthpop! If you don't know where to start check out The Ultimate Sparks Collection box set on Rhino which covers the 70s & 80s. and pay attention to the lyrics if you want a laugh!
Also check the DVD "Sparks Live In London" which features the song "how to get your ass kicked"
Kimono My House, seconded.
Though they were a bit of a campy joke back in the 80's. I'll go if they promise to play eaten by the monster of love.
haha, when i saw Sparks on the poster i first wondered if it was a new band with an old name, like Bad Company several years ago...
yeah I'll definitely be at whatever stage / tent they are at for this set.
Danny DeVito confirmed. (as if we didn't know he would be there anyway)
I mean. They are a campy joke. They also happen to be incredibly witty, write great songs and have a monstrously influential sound.
Americans don't "take the piss" anyway. That's something that only the Brits would be willing to do. Are you taking the piss out of me? ARE YOU?! HUH? Because that would be both moronic, and disgusting. Someone took the piss. That much is certain.
