so it came to me the other day, with the hologram in 2012 of tupac, how cool would it be if there was a gorillaz Performance in 2014? Although it seems that gorillaz is on somewhat of a Hiatus or retiring, itd be awesome. anyone else??
They don't have any new material and they don't have anything planned for a good while. Damon is pretty focused on Blur right now.

Well they put out the Fall after Plastic Beach. And they could do Monkey: Journey to the West.
But Albarn and Hewlett had a falling out, and he's done with Gorillaz for a good while.
The reason they never did a hologram tour is because it turned out to be too expensive and they had problems with bass reverberating the mirrors and making them shake.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world.

Remember the first time Gorillaz headlined Coachella, and everyone was mad with anticipation of how they'd do it? It ended up being a little disappointing that it was just a bunch of talented musicians on stage, but I'm not sure if a Hologram tour could happen now, after it instantly becoming a punchline with Tupac.
One of Albarn's collaborators - I can't remember who it was - said within the last month or two that they expected another Gorillaz album to happen after Blur finished up an LP, which they're working on now. When you factor in touring and the lengthy amount of time put into the recording of each Gorillaz album, I wouldn't expect them to be ready to tour again until 2015.
To say they have "no material" is a bit naive. That would be like saying that Blur and Gorillaz songs are interchangeable. Having material, and the production of material, is what makes Albarn him the artist he is. Gorillaz don't have to come back, but Albarn has Gorillaz material, so it would make sense that the material would get produced and released whether or not it has the Gorillaz tag on it. Have faith, stay patient, and keep an open mind on the future of our favorites.
