Still infinitely better live, (I'd go as far as to say there is nobody currently better) but the new Teeth of the Sea album is absolutely fucking excellent.

Yes! It's just one producer, Christelle Gualdi, and Kassem Mosse actually did the arranging and mixing of the Joy One Mile album, which is imo, one of the best releases of the year.

I've liked it since it came out, but after re-listening a lot these past few days Thee Oh Sees' Floating Coffin is just fantastic.

Tim Hecker's Virgins is absolutely the best and most stunning record of its kind since Rene Hell put out The Terminal Symphony in 2011. Two listens front to back today and I can't wait to put it on again tomorrow.

Honestly had no idea who this was, but decided to play some shit on spotify and I'm fucking loving it. Mind you this is the first time in like 4 months I've smoked a bowl and am pretty baked, but it's pretty fantastic. I'll have to hear it not high at some point.

I am bummed I didn't jump on getting a ticket to one of their 3 shows here in SF this week - that album is killer.

    Absolutely amazing album for sure.

Similar experience in 2011. On ? some user was compiling a spreadsheet with the number of positive mentions an album got in the 2011 recommendations thread there. Tim Hecker's "Ravedeath, 1972" was high on the list and I grabbed it without knowing a single thing about it. That album was my gateway into ambient, and although delayed, into noise as well. That album itself is pretty flawed but has high peaks. Virgins is stunning from start to finish.

I know I'm a late to the part, but Jesus fuck Bill Callahan's Dream River is so, so good; it's been a while since I've given the same album back-to-back listens, and I feel like yesterday's rainy weather was the perfect accompaniment to it.

One new compilation I've been playing out a lot lately is Strut's Mutazione: Italian Electronic & New Wave Underground 1980-1988. These songs have more in common with no- and minimal-wave than what you might think when you hear "Italian" and "Electronic," and there's lots of weird and wonderful diversity spread across the 26 songs compiled on it.

I know that Drinkey mentioned this somewhere but Touché Amoré Is Survived By has turned out to be one of my favorite albums of the year. They have completely embraced the melodic aspects of their previous albums and experimented with the vocals to create their best material yet. Some people are turned off by angsty lyrics and vocals, but if you can get past that I really recommend giving this a spin.

Memorial by Russian Circles is quite good. Just the type of heavy music that I love. Plus, Chelsea Wolfe appears on the last song. This will probably end up in my top 15 or 20 at the end of the year.

Sonic Bloom by Night Beats is pretty fantastic. Kind of reminds me of Brian Jonestown Massacre meets Ty Segall. Definitely give it a listen if you're into psychedelic.

Again, (Tall) Chris is way off base. (British) Chris is much closer to base on that Teeth Of The Sea album, I'm not sure everything works after the first listen, we'll see how it develops over time, but the opener and the closer are both fucking killer, and most everything in between is enjoyable at the very least. I'd say it's closer to Fuck Buttons, Factory Floor and Trans Am than "brolectro."
