Listening to Body/Head and it just reminds me of all the Kim songs I tend to skip on Sonic Youth albums. I'm glad she's got something going on after their dissolution, but I prefer tuneless screaming Kim Gordon to tuneless droning on and on Kim Gordon. I don't know if I'd like it more with different vocals, but the guitar drone stuff isn't really catching my attention enough to make up for anything. Might give it another listen some time, but it's not much of a priority (unless this final 17 minute track is amazing).
Ka - The Night's Gambit got a fawning review on FACT and on first listen, totally fucking deserved. Quite possibly the best hip-hop release I've heard this year by a not insignificant margin. Not a weak track. Really dig his flow, it's not at all showy, kind of laid back but confident and quietly menacing. Dark, claustrophobic beats in the finest NY tradition without seeming like a total throwback or anything. This is a fucking keeper. Shove it in your earholes immediately.
If you like this song at all you'll definitely like the rest of the album
Cults - Static, 10/15
Really do like the new album, NPR stream came out today.
I can't wait for this project to come out
Chris Cunningham + Warpaint = GB heaven
I haven't understood the not so good reactions to No Age's An Object. I love it.
It's cliche to say but those few songs off Monomania I saw live at FYF are what made me dig the album a bit more.
For those who liked Jon Hopkins Immunity, you can now find his soundtrack for the movie How I Live Now on Spotify. The soundtrack is more neo classical compositions then dance floor oriented but still just as good in my opinion. My only gripe is that some of the songs are just too short leaving me wanting for extended versions.
Fratellis new album came out today. Most, if not all of the songs are on the upbeat side.
Not as many hooker references this time. :(
Bitter Rivals from Sleigh Bells is glorious. The first two songs I heard from it (title track and "You Don't Get Me Twice") are my least favorite. The other eight songs are heavy, sweet, catchy, bitchy, fun, sublime. Mother fucking in love with this band all over again.
Okay, so I gave Sleigh Bells another go, and I'm kinda diggin' it.
The new Cage the Elephant record is garbage. Yeah I went there
"Went there" meaning you actually listened to it in the first place?
