Pixies, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Suicidal Tendencies, Andrew W.K., Hatebreed, T.S.O.L., Off With Their Heads, The Flatliners, Nativ, Hostage Calm, The Interrupters, New Beat Fund, and Pet Symmetry will all be joining us this September to round out this rock and roll carnival!
Regrettably, a few bands have had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. Motörhead, Bad Brains, and Attack Attack! will not be able to make it this year.
Keep an eye out for the daily schedules and individual day passes for all of this year's Riot Fests Wednesday, July 24.
Holy shit! What adds! Anyone have any ticket hookup to this?![]()

Friday looking pretty lame.
Anyone know when they usually get their stage schedules posted? I sense conflicts. Lots of conflicts.
edit:
Nevermind, found the answer to my own question. Last year they posted it a week beforehand. Jesus. Not sure how to prepare for this thing at all. Listen to everything, I guess.

Tom from Az did you watch the Replacements tonight at Riot? Holy fuck they sounded good
Certain songs they get so scratched into our souls
Hopefully they'll come here soon! They sound great...

Three weeks! This is a stacked lineup in my opinion. Top 5:
1. The Replacements
2. Guided by Voices (my favorite band, totally biased)
3. Violent Femmes
4. Pixies
5. Mission of Burma
Can't wait, I'll be going to this one for sure! Can't wait for Joan Jett/Pixies
Schedule is coming this week per Facebook / Twitter. I'm hoping for a minimum of conflicts.
I think conflicts are going to be pretty bad this year
Especially on Saturday
Schedule will be on on Monday (September 9). Just received some tickets-this festival is going to be so awesome!
I heard conflicts weren't too bad the previous years...
my top 5)
1) Joan Jett
2) Pixies
3) Replacements
4) Violent Femmes
5) Bad Religion
They did a great job with set timesSunday is stacked from Peter Hook, Mission of Burma, Quicksand, Bob Mould, the Dismemberment Plan, Rocket from the crypt, Touche Amore, Pixies, & the Replacements....http://chicago.riotfest.org/events/2013/09/15/
I'd have a fucking blast at this festival. I think I'd end up hurt or some shit.
Great job on the schedule in my opinion. One or two conflicts but nothing too terrible. It'll be weird seeing Quicksand at 1:55pm in the afternoon, lol.
Fri: Flatliners -> Saul Williams -> Smoking Popes -> Andrew WK -> Bad Religion -> GWAR -> Joan Jett -> Danzig -> Sublime/Rome after
Sat: Nativ -> Surfer Blood -> TSOL -> X -> Selecter -> Dino Jr -> Radkey -> GBV -> FLAG -> Blondie -> Rancid -> Violent Femmes -> Blink 182
Sun: Chuck Ragan -> Pet Symmetry -> Peter Hook -> Mission of Burma -> Quicksand -> Against Me! -> Bad Books -> Dismemberment Plan -> RFTC -> Suicidal Tendencies -> Toche Amore -> AFI (I guess) -> Pixies -> Mats

I am very excited for this festival
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts vs Sublime with Rome? Any suggestions on this conflict?
Or Atmosphere vs Gwar?
I'm debating
Joan Jett over Sublime with Rome. No question.
Atmosphere put on a good show back in 2002, I can't vouch for now though. I'd go with GWAR personally, any chance you get to see monsters eat people on stage, you take it. That's always been my philosophy.
Had a GREAT time
Went to three major festivals this year, probably the only time I'll ever do that! Sasquatch, Outside Lands, Riot Fest Chicago. Well Riot Fest and Sasquatch may not count as Major but whatever.
Anyway I'd rank them as
Sasquatch -> Riot Fest -> Outside Lands
Individual performance-wise though
Paul McCartney at Outside Lands >>>>>>>>>>>>> anything else a distant second
Sasquatch Pros: Top-notch scenery, camping, main stage area feels intimate due to naturally tiered seating, excellent presentation with superior quality video screens and sound at nearly every performance we saw (I think I saw bad sound like one time the whole festival)
Sasquatch Cons: Food is typical bad fair food, expensive domestic beer only, port-a-potties sometimes dirty (but, I never waited in line)
Riot Fest Pros: Amazing lineup for a rock/punk fan, easily the best top-to-bottom lineup of any fest I saw this year. Food-beer options good and cheapest of any fest I went to this year- $7 micros! $8 New Orleans steak strips over jambalaya! $5 NY pizza slices! Not hard to navigate from one stage to the next. Good screens at four out of the five stages.
Riot Fest Cons: Not enough garbage cans, no porta-potties near the main stage area except for VIPs, Humboldt park is in the middle of a residential area and there are no cabs around after dark and nowhere to stay in the immediate vicinity, it took us anywhere from 1 to 2 hours and a walk of about a mile to a mile and a half to find a cab afterwards each night. The rain on day 3 was a bummer as there wasn't any shelter areas in the park. At least with Sasquatch you could go change your clothes if necessary.
Outside Lands Pros: Huge headlining acts. Paul McCartney. San Francisco is a wonderful city. Inexpensive shuttle back to downtown afterwards. Good food/beer options, but they were expensive. Comedy tent was awesome. Panhandle stage was a great place to see acts up close.
Outside Lands Cons: Generally sub-par sound, especially early in the day. Weird layout for some stage areas- Sutro had this big sound booth-tent right in front of the stage blocking the view, and there was no screen to compensate. You could go up on the hill at Sutro to see, but the sound quality up there wasn't good, at least for the acts I saw. The main stage had screens, but they were too small. The screens should be big enough that if you are halfway across the field, it should still be possible to make out detail, and it totally wasn't. Paul brought his own amazing huge screens with him that were only used for that set, if those were the normal screens, then they'd really have something going. Port-a-potty situation was bad, mainly due to 60,000 people being there. The middle set of port-a-potties between Sutro and Lands End weren't too bad, but any of the others had a perpetual line in the evening.
Anyway I went off on a tangent, back to Riot Fest Chicago ...
The Violent Femmes I think were my favorite act. Also I was pleasantly surprised by the Sublime with Rome afterparty. I booked that for my GF as she's a huge fan, but I really enjoyed it too. They did "Drain You" by Nirvana and it ruled. They also did a Bad Brains song.

Riotfest was an absolute blast and it honestly had the best crowd out of any festival that I have attended this year. The Replacements and Peter Hook's aftershow were two of my favorite sets of the year. The only negative the terrible cell phone service. Luckily by Saturday and Sunday my friends and I had planned meetup spots for all of the sets on the two main stages. I think they will have a difficult time topping this years lineup in 2014, but I still plan on going again.
Not sure whether this is worth a new thread for 2014 dates, but Riot Fest (Chicago) tickets went on sale today.
Cheapest options gone, but the price increase is only ten bucks from those low points.
