For Om I would suggest Conference of the Birds or Pilgrimage

I cannot believe how great this lineup is for 150 dollars. Amazing.
The Besnard Lakes - Are the Dark Horse. That album shoulda been huge.
The third Os Mutantes album is similarly great. Conference of the Birds is my favorite Om, but I imagine they're playing more of the new stuff now since the sound has changed so much.
Day by day breakdown is out: http://www.austinpsychfest.com/2013-festival/lineup/
What?

Who from the board is going?
Oh man, the pre party on the 25th looks great with A Place to Bury Strangers, Metz and more TBA. And it's free if you have a Austin Psych Fest pass!

just bought a ticket for Friday so maybe i'll see some of you there.
April 24 - Queens of the Stone Age
April 26-28 - Levitation
Awesome, hopefully we actually have time to grab a beer

I don't recall ever going to an Austin brewery when I lived there. I do recommend the Ginger Man downtown for beer and trying some of the St. Arnold beers which is a brewery in Houston. Their Elissa IPA is great---has a flowery peach nose that covers a modest ABV. And their Winter stout which won't be available in April is pretty good too.
I'm considering this now if I don't catch a lot of these bands at SX. I've been listening to the Elephant Stone album this week, which I've read as a hindie-rock band. It almost reminds me of the Monkeys---very clean poppy 60s psych rock. Also checked out the Besnard Lakes Dark Horse album per Bmacks rec above. Very good, but it'll take a few more listens for me to soak it all in.
Sorry for the late reply, hadn't checked up on this thread for a while.
Here's a sneak peek from the last two APF schedules, lifted from my Flickr sets:

(Edited to show Sunday v. Sunday set times, Friday they started later and ended later and Saturday they started earlier and ended later)
HOWEVER, both of those were inside, so noise curfews may be different for the outdoor setting this year. But then again, with such proximity to the airport - will there even be such a thing?
Word on my street is that this is only the first free pre-party show, there's another one they're finalizing the details on - we'll probably hear more about this next week, along with the set time schedule for this year. It's supposed to be announced on Tuesday.![]()
Also, a certain Anton from a certain massacre band and Dead TV put the following Psych Fest mix together:

Plenty of breweries here now. (512), Live Oak, Austin Beer Works, Jester King, Black Star Co-op, Independence, Adelberts, Hops and Grain Brewing Co., Circle Brewing, Real Ale, Thirsty Planet, Twisted X...plenty. The problem is this is Texas and our blue laws are the most ridiculous thing in the world. Most of these places arent open for tours or tastings and if they are they can only be open for a stupidly small amount of time, like 3-4 hours a week. If you were going to make one, Iwould do Jester King, but it's about 25 miles from Downtown and only open Saturdays from 1-4.
As far as getting a great beer selection, the Gingerman is nice, but Bangers has a much larger selection. As well as the Draught House pub/brewery.
You're not ignorant, that's common sense - but we're talking ordinances and the law here, so I doubt they're following any kind of normal reasoning.
What I did find out is that during "Spring festival season", Austin outdoor concert venues can only allow 85 db "broadcasts" (thru amplification) until 2AM. So that'd be my guess as to the end time.
Thanks! I might try to check out one of these breweries after SX. I remember the St. Arnolds tour had very limited hours as well. Took me forever to finally go.
I use to live down the street from the Draught House. Forgot all about it. Nice German lady. Always brought our own chairs to sit outside when it was packed.
Unfortunately I have to sell my two Psych Fest passes so if somebody was thinking of going and hasn't bought theirs yet, I'm selling them for the original price of 120 each. Pm me..
