No sir. You gotta pay or win if you wanna get in. But they also don't have Ticketmonster or other stupid fees, so you get in cheap. Mine was $900 for four tickets. I don't know what the extra fees/shipping are for Coachella this year... at $385 a head, it's probably about $800 for two tickets. Big difference. But different experiences.

Here's your likely first headliner... Foo Fighters. No Texas dates and gaps during both ACL weekends. Also no shows during Lolla, but they played there in '11.

09/30 – Wichita, KS @ INTRUST Bank Arena
    ACL GAP 10/2-10/4
10/04 – Atlanta, GA @ Centennial Olympic Park
    10/05 – Nashville, TN @ Bridgestone Arena
    10/07 – Memphis, TN @ FedEx Forum
    ACL GAP 10/9-10/11

As a Foos fan, I support this. They haven't played ACL since 2008 and did Austin in the new album, so it makes sense. They were terrific at Voodoo a few weeks ago!

Yeah, they're definitely headlining. Just when I thought I was done with ACL, this may be my only chance to see them next year...

Throw AC/DC into the "possible" column. No Texas dates and the tour wraps 4 days before Weekend 1.

08/26 E. Rutherford, NJ MetLife Stadium*
08/28 Quebec City, ON Plains Of Abraham*
    08/31 Montreal, QC Olympic Stadium*
    09/3 Ottawa, ON TD Place*
    09/5 Moncton, NB Magnetic Hill*
    09/8 Detroit, MI Ford Field*
    09/10 Toronto, ON Downsview Park*
    09/15 Chicago, IL Wrigley Field*
    09/20 Edmonton, AL Commonwealth Stadium*
    09/2 Vancouver, BC BC Place*

I was surprised by the lack of Texas dates, especially since this is probably their last major hurrah. AC/DC + Foo Fighters + rap headliner? (Kanye or Drake?) Who knows.
I would see AC/DC if they were there, but I've never contemplating paying to see them on their own.

I think Kendrick is also a possible headliner, but Drake is probably the most likely. Throw in a couple pop headliners and an EDM act too. Mumford has never played ACL so I think they are likely.

    AC/DC - Foo Fighters - Kendrick Lamar
EDM - Mumford & Sons - Florence + the Machine

I think AC/DC is out. Doesn't look like they're playing Lolla and usually I would think AC/DC would be the clear crossover headliner for both festivals.

I dunno, Pearl Jam played ACL and not Lolla last year. Same for Depeche Mode in 2013. I think it's possible.

I think My Morning Jacket could possibly be headliners. Played in '07, headlined in '11, and so this would be a fourth year again. And with the new albums and everything.

I could see C3 (or do we say Live Nation now?) giving Lollapalooza one of Kanye or Drake and ACL the other. It seems the consensus is that Drake will be at Lolla so maybe we'll get Kanye. I'm just guessing here though.

Björk could also be a slight possibility I would think. She headlined in 2009 so she's due, and of course has the new album plus has already been announced for a few American fests. Nothing of actual weight to go off of though, I would just love this to happen.

    I would be happy with:
    AC/DC | Kanye/Drake | Foo Fighters
Björk | My Morning Jacket | who cares (probably Axwell and Ingrosso or whatever)

As for subs (again going off of next to nothing, just a prediction):
-Explosions in the Sky just announced 3 US dates in September and are currently working on a new album, which will presumably be completed by then. Not much to go off of, but it's something.
-Hopefully Modest Mouse, though I'm not sure if them headlining FFF last year will affect this is any way.
-Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals
    -Tallest Man on Earth
    -Alabama Shakes
-Hozier (probably a lock since he had to cancel last-minute last year, and the fact that he sells tickets on his own)
    -Tears for Fears
    -The Decemberists
    -Gary Clark, Jr
    -Hot Chip
    -Panda Bear
    -Father John Misty
    -Flying Lotus
    -War on Drugs
    -STS9
    -Jose Gonzalez
    -Metz
    -Magical Cloudz

Longshots: The Dead Weather, Sleater-Kinney, Tame Impala (I'd love it since their day was canceled in '13, but I don't see this happening)

Not really expecting anything too exciting, but it's looking like they have a real shot at making this lineup a lot better than last years. I see 2015 as potentially being a year where ACL benefits from being the one of the latest major American festivals of the year.

But then again they could just continue in last year's trend and book AC/DC, Drake, Foo, Alt-J, Florence, EDM Headliner, and then fill the rest in with like 50% EDM and pop. That really wouldn't surprise me -- hell, that's probably even the more realistic outcome. But I feel like they have a real shot at making a lineup somewhat comparable to 2013's, and I really hope they take it.

I would be shocked if Yeezy is in Austin and Drake in Chicago. My Snoring Racket is a distinct possibility, although they're a 5th/6th headliner in the line. So is Bjork.

Why is Sleater-Kinney considered a longshot? I don't know that playing Stubb's in April is a deterrent, and they fit the vibe of Austin pretty smooth. Although... I guess you're right. Playing there, not touring in the fall... that's enough to call it a longshot.

I'd put The Kills on the longshots before Dead Weather... but some Jack White-backed act might get consideration, so why not? Kanye, AC/DC, Foos, Raconteurs, MMJ, EDM headliner type.... I'd go to that festival. More realistically I suspect Drake, Foos, Sam Smith, Florence, EDM guy, MMJ or some other not too inspirational sorta-rock headliner. In short, I'm setting myself up for disappointment but won't be disappointed because I am the rare Lolla board Foos fan.

I think Tame Impala playing Levitation means they won't be at ACL this year. And why would ACL book Sleater-Kinney - they haven't even sold out their Stubb's show.

The Kills were great at Free Press, would love to see them at ACL.

presclinton, I think you're right, My Morning Jacket is highly possible. Although I'd much rather see them at ACL Live or something.

I was just thinking about the time I saw The Kills at ACL '08 the other day. It was early in the afternoon, they were dressed in black, and Allison almost collapsed on stage from the heat. They paused for a bit and she drank some water.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Hm. That's a bit odd considering AC/DC's current tour dates and lack of Texas shows. It all seems to be lining up perfectly for an ACL slot, much like Depeche Mode in '13. Surely there would be no way in hell they would book AC/DC AND Metallica, right?

But I guess we were saying the same thing about them booking DM and The Cure in the same year...

Metallica | AC/DC | Foo Fighters -- that would just be so weird. But it would sure as hell sell tickets.

I would love this. ACL crowds can't get any worse and Metallica (for me personally) would make this fest worth going to. ACL always has at least a 5-6 bands I want to see anyway and Metallica would be the band that would make me commit (at least the day they hypothetically play).

EDIT* I selfishly would like a repeat of 2013. It was nice to avoid the festival in general and just hit up the night shows (I understand this doesn't happen with headliners, but still).

At Lollapalooza in 2008 she actually DID collapse from the heat. Or the drugs. Yeah, it was probably the drugs. They were still great, though. That album was phenomenal.

Modest Mouse announced their summer tour today:

03-07 Tampa, FL - Gasparilla Music Festival
03-09 Athens, GA - Georgia Theatre
    03-10 Chattanooga, TN - Track 29
03-12 Charleston, SC - North Charleston PAC
03-13 Raleigh, NC - The Ritz
03-18 New York, NY - Webster Hall
03-19 New York, NY - Webster Hall
04-17 Buffalo, NY - Asbury Hall at Babeville
04-19 Ithaca, NY - Barton Hall at Cornell University
04-20 Pittsburgh, PA - Stage AE
04-22 Memphis, TN - Minglewood Hall
04-24 Oklahoma City, OK - Diamond Ballroom
04-25 Frisco, TX - Edge Fest
05-23 Chelan, WA - Sasquatch Music Festival
06-19 Dover, DE - Firefly Festival
06-26 Odense, Denmark - Tinderbox Festival
    07-01 Gdynia, Poland - Open'er Festival
07-05 Birmingham, England - The Institute
07-07 Manchester, England - The Ritz
    07-08 Leeds, England - O2 Academy Leeds
    07-09 Newcastle, England - 02 Academy Newcastle
07-12 Perth, Scotland - T in the Park
07-19 Louisville, KY - Forecastle Festival
07-22 Brooklyn, NY - Prospect Park Bandshell
07-23 Boston, MA - Blue Hills Bank Pavilion
07-25 Oro-Medonte, Ontario - HomeAway Music and Arts Festival

They only have that one random Texas date at Edge Fest in April, which I guess is kind of fishy. But I guess it could be weird coming back to do ACL the year after you headline FFF... But maybe the album release will negate that.

I'm just hopeful. I've been pleasantly surprised by their new songs and every time I've planned on seeing them it's fallen through. If they don't do ACL, I hope they do a headlining Austin show. I'd probably prefer that actually.

Edit: Just thought of this - a Modest Mouse ACL Aftershow at Stubbs would be so great.

Edit 2: Here's their latest track from the new album, shared a couple hours ago:

Last year the lineup was released on April 22.
In 2013, it was May 6.

I think Noel Gallagher is a lock for ACL - there's no other explanation for him skipping Austin on his current tour run where he hits Dallas and Houston, and he's playing a lot of festivals. A Stubb's aftershow would be great.

And I think Bjork is a longshot at this point.

    So..

Foo Fighters - Metallica or AC/DC - Mumford or Coldplay - Drake or Kendrick - EDM/DJ
Florence - My Morning Jacket - Modest Mouse - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Alabama Shakes - The Decemberists

I think Robert Plant is pretty likely for ACL this year. His new tour dates still don't have him hitting Texas on this album cycle, and he played ACL Live the last time he was here. And until recently, he lived here so we know he wouldn't mind spending 2 weekends in Austin. Plus it would get the olds to Zilker Park. It's time for his return to ACL Fest.
