Not to mention, HUGE nostalgia factor for Coachella's target demographic (college age kids).

My point is this: there are a SHIT TON of bands that have never played. The only reason to keep getting the same overdone acts every three to four years is to sell tickets (although with the festival already being sold out basically, I can't see why this should be a factor). Coachella was (is) great because of it's uniqueness and ability to put together a diverse lineup, different from other festivals, each year.
edit: I realize this is all based on the speculation, but my point still stands.
Coachella 09, 10, 11, 12(WK1), 13(WK2), 14(WK2), 15(WK1), 16(WK1)
It's all about the music.
I'd imagine we see plenty of new artists and first timers as usual, but I believe it has been more difficult to maintain so much uniqueness since it went to a three-day format. When there are anywhere from 150-180 acts a year and only so many bands touring, I'd imagine it isn't as easy filling out the lineup without having a plethora of repeats.
It's that time of year again guys. -
