With the lack of Rolling Stones looking probable at the moment, Im throwing my support with what Monklish has listed as headliners, Phoenix/NIN or Bjork/Daft Punk. My 2 cents.

I saw Eminem do that same setlist at Osheaga that year. Not great. Lose Yourself was off the chain though.
The backing track is so noticeable for that guy. I know a lot of rappers do it, but it was so bad for him. Really distracting.

Daft Punk is not playing.. Sadly ;(
If the Chili Peppers were indeed approached a year ago, I actually don't think it is that lazy if the strategy was, "We're going to go after some really elusive and hard to get headliners this year, RHCP seem interested, let's get one solid headliner on the books so we can put the rest of our focus on getting two rarer ones." Especially since they were doing that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing during 2012, maybe they were approached for that year. Some combination of RHCP/Sabbath/Dre/Radiohead.
I am not a fan, but there is no denying that to a KROQ type of audience, they are a gigantic band and have been around forever.
This is all the most desperate of speculation, of course. I needz mah lineup.

While I see your point and do think it has some validity I also believe that if the other two big name festivals (Bonaroo & Lolla) book a band and you get them the year after that, it reads off as lazy booking. Especially since I'm sure RHCP are an expensive act to book. I always saw Coachella as being the best US festival and would be disappointed with an Eminen or RHCP
i.e. Mick Jagger himself just told you exactly what I said my Stones source was telling me. And the interview is from 12/17, which means that my lineup source may be correct that talks started in the following two weeks. Or maybe he doesn't know and is hedging his bets, but I don't think that's his style. Either way, lick my hairy balls.
Please Motor, as an homage to Camus, just skip the coffee today.
Of course, you all will acknowledge that I was correct and not hide in a corner somewhere. concertgoer in particular, given his great concern about the Stones' quick denial of such rumors, will acknowledge that they basically did so immediately.
Mick Jagger ate a Mars bar out of Moto Rave's wife.
Don't forget RHCP also headlined ACL, as well as played at every single city in the world in 2012.
If you've got hate in your heart, let it out.
RHCP played every city in the world and headlined Lollapalooza in 2006...
