this is definitely tragic on multiple levels
Yep this is a real kick in the balls. DJ Shadow's new album is amazing, and his classics cant be beat. He was a huge part of my life in the late 90's early thousands.
But even saying that, and even having already been to Modeslektor in the Sahara in 2008.... I think I'm still going to have to go with Modeselektor on this one. They're coming all the way from germany and just kill it live. They have a very unique sound that just makes me wana have fun more than DJ Shadow.
I like that they're at least both right next to each other, so it wont be hard to float between both of them if you really want to. Hopefully each weekend wont be as packed this year so it wont be as big of a problem to go between acts as it sometimes can be. I wont plan on it or anything though... I'll have to give Modeselektor my vote on this one.
I'd be pissed if I had to make this choice but Dre and Snoop makes it a no brainer
I mean you get Dre a full hour after they start, this is ridiculously horrendous!
Yeah it's gonna be modeselektor>dre for me. I love DJ shadow but Modeselektor is just not to be missed.
modeselektor because of possibility of moderat songs and much more dancing for sure.
This conflict is probably the most painful for me.
As someone who has seen neither of them, which would you guys suggest and why? I can't seem to decide.
Modeselektor. God help us that tent is going to be packed.
It's really painful for me. I just like Shadow's production more, and he's one of the last "true DJs" as I see it, just old school and ass-kicking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that his live shit is pretty legendary.
Austin City Limits 05, 06, 07, 08, 12. Lollapalooza 09, 10. Coachella 11, 12, 14. Bonnaroo 13. Austin Psych Fest 15.
Always go with the more psychedelic option, maybe it's just me.
I have seen Modeselektor twice, once at Coachella 2008 and once in Denver a few years later, and Moderat once in Chicago. They never disappoint. Next to The Chemical Brothers, they are my favorite purveyors of unique and pure rhythm (bass is overrated). So insanely good.
I have been dying to see Shadow for years, but given his diminishing quality of releases these past few years I will, with only marginal hesitation, definitely be at Modeslektor.
The reputation both of these artists carry had them both on my no-to-miss list. They had priority over everyone on Sunday.
EXCEPT FOR EACH OTHER.
Thanks for the input. I think I might just do half sets for both of them. Hopefully it won't leave me thinking I should have just stood at one or the other.
I definitely think "The Outsider" is crap, but Shadows latest album was a return to what made him great. I think its a really solid release that brings back the same kind of vibe he had back in the 90's. Thats why it pains me so much to have to choose Modeselektor in this fight.
Probably end it all with a song or two of Dre and Snoop.
I want a prime spot for Dre and Snoop so I think I am gonna have to skip Modeselektor altogether and go to the Drive In people. Damn though man, I really wanted to see what Modeselektor was about
The Skip Divided remix of that Thome York song is fucking amazing. Fortunately this is the only conflict for me so I aint even mad
wonder if glowruption plans will change due to conflict. is it good manners to glowrupt while shadow is playing next door?
I only said kind of meh. lol.
One or two decent tracks for sure, but nothing that matched their consistency in the past. (Purely my opinion only.)
The answer lies here.
Weekend 1: Modeselektor
Weekend 2: DJ Shadow
