Thread: 100,000 at Gaga?

    Default 100,000 at Gaga?

I think she just beat Kaskade/Calvin/etc. with the crowd expansion and absolute lack of counter-programming (all due respect to Classixx and S U R V I V E, which I doubt had 20,000 together...). All hail the new Queen of Coachella

Meh, just another piece of evidence that Coachella is going full pop.

I was in the beer garden for her set, but it looked as though half the people left about 2/3 through?

They ended with a drone shot of the crowd that looked to go all the way back and looked pretty densely populated.

I was a little behind the second row of speakers, and it was NOT densely packed at all. I could have run around in circles if I wanted to. Twenty minutes before her set, I was pretty shocked at how empty it was - only filled in when DJ Snake ended. Also, there was a consistent stream of people leaving through the set. So I think it went a long way back, but the crowd was nowhere near the Dre/Snoop crowd, and I can't imagine as big as the Kaskade/Calvin crowds.

That said, I'm not a huge fan, but she KILLED it.

It didn't seem that huge? Like, big crowd for sure, but not packed in like sardines or anything. Was really comfortable.

I had plenty of room at the second speaker towers and easily could have went left of the soundboard after 3 songs.

Braundiggity, I think we were neighbors. If you saw two backpacks with braided EL wire, that was me. :-)

People just don't get that packed once you get a ways past the sound booth kinda area. Even at A-1/3, you've still got room to easily move around a fair bit. What possible immediate difference would you notice if you walked up and stood directly behind the dude in front of you? You're already about 40 meters away, what difference is a couple feet gonna make?

How would you compare it to Outkast W1?

Coachella has 20 more acres than last year. It is hard to judge crowd size relative to landmarks that have changed.

Crowd was big, but Rage Against the Machine had a much bigger crowd. We were packed in like sardines. Gaga was way cool, fun crowd and a great show.
Just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this…and totally redeem yourself!

probably the best coachella performance I've seen. and I'm not even a huge gaga fan outside of the bangers. Radiohead was one of the best ever as well even with the sound issues.

Unpossible. I heard the whole fest this year was a dud from someone who was there.

The surprisingly small crowd for Radiohead mixed with the huge crowd for Gaga does not bode well for the future of rock music at Coachella.

Seriously though, this is all pretty good to hear as I thought from the streams it looked packed. I'm pumped.

Gaga was a blast and she brought so much energy, but I had some issues with her choices:
    a) played that lyric video for the entire Applause song to change, it went on way too long and was kinda dumb
    b) new song killed the energy even though it was a pretty good song
    c) choosing to sing Edge of Glory as a ballad and then doing Million Reasons as a dance song...??
    d) stop taking a break to talk in the middle of songs!
    e) deep cuts like Sexx Dreams, Venus, Teeth, Scheibe...as a fan this was interesting but as a Coachella headlining performance I dunno

everything else was amazing. And she had a good crowd - probably the biggest of the headliners this year - but it wasn't super crowded either.

A-YO, Born This Way, Bad Romance, LoveGame, Speechless, and You & I were lit

Yeah, so mostly I thought this was a party but I definitely felt like this was a setlist tailored to her diehard fans. There were a lot of songs my wife and I didn't know, and I'd wager that we've heard every Gaga single to hit the radio multiple times. When I looked it up on Setlist.fm, it seemed like she was premiering a lot of songs she hadn't played live in a long time, so I get why the diehards were excited. It did feel like the energy was stalled at times for the casual fans, though.

    Bummed about no Perfect Illusion.

Overall I had a ton of fun though.

I had to leave Pixies in the Mojave that year because the dust storm got so unbearable for me. I was about to leave and possibly miss Pet Shop Boys but luckily I hardened up and stuck it out for that wonderful performance there.

I was no where near the set. Saw Breakbot tearing it a part. Show of the weekend right there. I had just as much fun seeing them as I did Daft Punk in there Sahara.
Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.

Upcoming Shows: Spamalot (7/31), HARD (8/1) 2001 Space Odyssey with LA Phil (8/12), Opeth (10/18), TOOL (10/31), Coachella 2016 (WK1), David Gilmour (Wherever I need to go)
