I'm impressed by the line up and wow they announce it early!
Great price. What is the venue for this?
Venues you mean
gonna have to nab a ticket to see talabot. i hope it isn't as empty as it was for lindstrom last year
For those who don't know -
This is a multiple venue event that takes place mostly in Echo Park and Silverlake. it uses The Echo, Echoplex, Taix, The Satellite, and various other small venues in the area and culminates in an outdoor street festival on the last day. There's also usually a pre-party at the Standard, and they have country-specific happy hours at taix that start early in the afternoon and include acoustic performances from the bands, film screening, and usually free booze. They also bring a bunch of food trucks into the Echo /Echoplex parking lot. These bands are probably less than 1/4 of the final line up. It's a really incredible deal for the money, like an insanely good deal. Corporate sponsors really help.
I wasn't able to go last year, but I went the whole 9 yards in 2010 and had a fucking blast for 4 days.

8/7/16 - Sufjan Stevens @ Hollywood Bowl // 8/8/16 - Radiohead @ Shrine // 8/8/16 - Boris @ Regent
9/14/16 - Wilco @ Theatre at Ace Hotel // 9/18/16 - Kraftwerk @ Hollywood Bowl
Do most of the shows allow all ages?
I think it's mostly 21+ unfortunately. I'm not super familiar with the age restrictions at the Echo/Echoplex though.

Echo and Echoplex are usually 18+. it is frustrating not being able to attend gigs because of my age.
Do most of the headliners play on Sunday?

• 06/07/12 - Kurt Vile - Largo at the Coronet
• 08/10/12 - Norah Jones - Hollywood Bowl
It's a great event and the block party at the end is a great way to end it.
I just get depressed when I got to see an amazing act and there are only 20 people there.![]()
It's amazing the value of this and if you can't afford $20 then just go to the free block party. I've never even seen them check RSVPs, they mostly just let anyone in.
The new ad in this week's LA Weekly lists The Wombats (UK), Patrick Wolf (UK), Niki & The Dove (UK), Laetitia Sadier(France), Gold Fields (AUS), Blood Red Shoes (UK), Resplandor (Peru), Go Back To The Zoo (Netherlands), Mimes of Wine (Italy), Chancellor Warhol (USA), Kyst (Poland), Monster Cat (Singapore), and Coldair (Poland) as new additions.
I'm suprised that FILTER doesn't have the Culture Collide site updated, nor have they mentioned the additions via twitter, fb, or their email blasts. Hopefully these are all confirmed!! It's looking like they're putting together another amazing festival. All the artists I'm familiar with are bands I've seen live - all of which were/are terrific - or have been wanting to see. I'm sure that of the rest, I'll find a few treasures as I have in years past.
Oh, and fwiw, Of Montreal listed all four days of this in their tour dates in the last email blast they did. Not as a range, but each of the days individually in a long list of tour dates. I was wondering how they'd handle the crowd without a larger venue, and apparently multiple sets is the solution.
Probably gonna go to this
Why can't Dean bring Britta?
Whiskey Sour
2 oz blended whiskey
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1 cherry
1/2 slice lemon
Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.
Does anyone recall from last year how late the day by day breakdown, venues, and set times were announced? I'm planning to do some of Thursday & Friday of this.

Looks like there were a bunch of new additions: Zola Jesus and DIIV are the "big" additions, and lots of smaller acts were added as well. I'm also seeing that Unknown Mortal Orchestra might be on the lineup, but I can't find them on the poster yet. In any case, I've updated the poster on the first post.
For sure. That's one thing I love about this event. Really helps eliminate conflicts, obviously, and if you're really into an act you can see them more than once, as I've done both years.
Regarding Of Montreal, they're now listed as Oct 6 & 7 on their own site, no longer all 4 days. Looks like a likely Echoplex set and the block party.
UMO was announced at some point this week by FILTER. They're showing up as playing Taix on Fri. Clinic and Junip have officially dropped out. School of Seven Bells are no longer on the poster, but FILTER tweeted to me "Don't count them out just yet" and Windish shows them as playing the block party. I think their gig with SSPU on the 14th is preventing them from announcing another LA date. (especially a free one!)
Class Actress is only playing the block party, and Talabot is only playing on Thurs (at least at Taix, and possibly another set elsewhere that night tba.)
There are other individual shows starting to pop up, especially on Windish's listings and through Origami. I've done my best to clean up and organize everything that's currently known on Songkick. There's a comprehensive list of what's been announced so far at this link:
http://j.mp/2012CultureCollide
They're also doing sets at Whole Foods stores again. I checked out Liam Finn & Marques Toliver last year and it was totally worth the trip. They had free food and gave away tickets to the festival. Sometimes they do free beer tastings, too
Edit: Fuck yeah to DIIV! Almost makes up for losing Junip.
ZOMG BLOOD RED SHOES!!!!
"why are you so annoying" TheKlein25
is the block party a free event?
Usually, yes it is free and open to the public. There is a reservation system, but i think it has not yet reached capacity in the previous years.
