Save yourself some cash and get Sony MDR-V6 or MDR-7506. Industry standard.

I was gonna suggest Sony MDR-V150. But you'd be surprised how good a pair of Sony MDRs are.

Industry standard or not, Grado Labs have been consistently putting out better products than Sony.

Grado > Sennheiser > Sony in whatever price range you're looking.

grado sr80 or sr125 (if they're on sale) are in your price range.

If you plan on wearing them in public, you should go with any thing that's closed ear like most Sennheiser and Sony products, but if you want to be indoors and alone with music, they're the best thing going...today.

It depends on what you're using them for. Are you a musician or are you just using them to listen to music? I'm a drummer who lives in an apartment so I practice on electronic drums and for anyone who's curious I highly recommend the Vic Firth Stereo Iso's. They usually go for around $55-$60 and the sound is impeccable, especially if you also play acoustic and you want the transition to be smooth.

off amazon....dont know why the price went up on em...try some other sites, maybe they'll still have em listed at 99 bucks. The sound and bass on these things are incredible....money well spent is all I can say. You'll never put fucking earbuds in your ears again.

i dont use earbuds. i hate them, they dont really fit me, and they hurt. i just have some $40 sony noise canceling headphones that are good but one side broke and i dont really even care about noise canceling so.... Those shure headphones seem like a good plan. is the difference between the sr80 and the sr125 enough for me to spend that much more on the sr125's cause i could always ask for some christmas money in advance.

I don't like the in-ear design...they hurt my ears big time. I can't even get those ear plugs that have similar design to fit in my ears, and they hurt as well....I don't know, for whatever reason, those just dont work for me....so its over the ear style for me.

They hurt my ears for a solid 2 months before I got used to them. I feel naked without them, though. I had to wear iPod earbuds for the last week while Shure warranty replaces my pair (left channel died at my own hand on accident, they're good on replacing things for any reason), and they felt horribly loose and uncomfortable.

SR80 will probably sound better than most things you've tried. The only negative I can say about them is that they're open ear headphones which means that everyone else can pretty much hear what you're listening to. I just like to stress that warning to people.

Also, a lot of people don't like the feeling of Grado foam pads.

i'm all about Sennheiser headphones. $50 for the PX200's. Best bass response I've heard in headphones of their class.

    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

The sony's are a little too bassy for me, and they are notorious for breaking. ask dj's about this.

My vote is for the SR80s too, but if you're looking for something that's more quiet for the outside world, I wear AKG K240's at work. They are also quite excellent and more comfortable to me than the Grados. They sit around your ears instead of on them. Also, the wire on my Grados eventually worn out from getting twisted and they had to be sent back where Grado fixes them for $25. The wire on the AKGs is replaceable for about $15 I think.

reminded me of another thing i like about my shure's, the cord is nice and thick, never gets twisted or knotted.

I think those stories are just exaggerated. I use my MDR's every day, and they haven't shown any wear or signs of breaking.

these are the ones I have. I use them every day and have for like 4 years. I like them. The only thing I dont like is the length of the cord. I wish there was some way to shorten it.

having had a pair myself and experiencing the breaking first hand, id say its not too exaggerated. but after some thought, i think its the way most dj's use them. it puts stress on the joint, which is made of plastic, so they tend to break there. ive also seen many of my friends sonys break, but again, i think it has more to do with the way we use them.
