Thumbs down Who in their right mind gave this the greenlight?

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...-show-20120125

Simon Cowell has announced plans to launch a new talent competition searching for the world's best new DJs. The show, which does not yet have a title, will loosely follow the format of Cowell's hit talent shows The X Factor, American Idol and America's Got Talent.

"DJs are the new rock stars. It feels like the right time to make this show," he said in a statement, commenting on the rising popularity of festival-filling EDM acts such as Skrillex, Deadmau5, David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia. Cowell has not gone into detail about the specifics of the show, or how the talents of DJs will be demonstrated and judged on television.

The show will be co-produced by SYCO, Cowell's joint venture with Sony Music, and Overbrook Entertainment, a production company founded by Will Smith. The producers plan to announce their broadcast partners in the United States and Britain in the near future.

That was my first reaction. It sounds like a show that will provide many, many lulz.

    Ok a few things:
    1) this is going to be the least captivating thing on television. DJ's are a lot of fun to see live but to sit and devote time to watching people on TV drop SHM 37 times will be infuriating.

    2) The only way this show will work is if they make every DJ spin original music. I'm sure how they mix will play a factor in the show but to hold a competition like this and to hear DJ's drop the same song over and over... Fuck that noise.

I hope to God this show comes down to not having to spin original music so every DJ can drop SHM, the fiver, and skrillex.America please vote on which DJ you just witnessed play the same songs.

Well, for one thing, I would imagine that the DJs need to get clearance to play each song they'd want to mix....right?
