I want to hear your Denver set again![]()
Minutes 44:32-48:28 of the Reflections/Contortions set might be my favorite 4 minutes of music in the history of music.
RAPE STOVE
white power?!
...although minutes 16:13-20:18 of the Transitions set give it a run for its money.
RAPE STOVE
white power?!

I like this perspective -
Both science and music consist of thinking about an abstract system, and how you can use (computational, in my case) tools to manipulate and explore the system, to gain a better understanding of it, and to find new and unexpected results. Although I don’t like overstating the science connection, a lot of the time I think about music in a purely emotive manner, and work by feel rather than anything else.
The Boat Party on the 28th is in Newport Beach, apparently: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?516927

Yea, I'm not sure what I think of it either. I've not been that taken with the direction he's gone in for his own material for the last year or so (still dug a lot of the remixes of others' work).
Hope you all had a good festive break, here's the full back catalogue of free download mixes - 14 hours of it!...

Hello,
My debut album Human is out March 10, and the second single Impacts has just come out. It's funny seeing the reactions, particularly "WTF is this!”
The album is called Human, and I’ve taken lots of different themes common to all of us, and tried to represent them in musical form. This one is about the impacts of life, something that shouldn’t be an easy, soft listening experience, but something that hopefully has a positive effect in the end in some way.
I did an interview with Dots and Dashes a while ago where I was saying that I hate it that people say “why don't you just make the same track all the time?”....that’s another reason for this sort of unexpected track, I don’t want to get boring!.....So don’t worry, I’ve not decided to become a gabba producer (yet), and there’s plenty of more pleasant music on the album, this one just happens to be a bit brutal. PS if you think mine is harsh, check out Perc’s remix, he’s taken it to whole new levels of obtuseness! (In an amazing sort of way, I've never quite heard anything like it)...
Have a listen on Beatport - bit.ly/Impacts. And if you're a vinyl collector, keep an eye out for an email announcing the very limited edition gatefold version of Human - it'll be announced to the mailing list first.
Max
Impacts was one of the unreleased tracks he was playing in his sets last year.

Giving Human a listen today. Digging it so far. As he'd warned, totally different than what he's been doing and what you'd expect, but I'm about 2/3 of the way through and like it a lot. It's definitely more commercial / wider appeal but I don't think that's bad. (For the record, I did NOT like most of what he's put out in the last year).
I listened to the album for the first time yesterday. first impression was very good. I can see why he says it is different, but at the same time it is still recognizable. 'Seething' really stood out on first listen.
Woot!

I have decided to do a series of free giveaways, starting with a new track called Arc. If you'd like to receive the track, plus the next in the series of 6 then there's a new website below where everything will be sent direct to you before it's made public.
Or if you prefer just to stream the music then it will be going on my soundcloud page some weeks after it goes out to the website members.
The membership thing is about being able to get in touch with you directly, so that we're not all totally at the whim of the big social media companies when they're deciding how much money and personal information we need to provide in return for our interaction.

I want to experience his multi-dimensional show.
Or would it be multi-sensory?
Beautiful
I found a beautiful and troubled place in Mexico called Teotihuacan, and wrote a piece of music about it with the pianist Tom Hodge. Out today as a free download on the Quotient Series - link below.
If you've seen my Emergence live show recently you might recognise this track, which is part 1 of a pair. The second part will be released on my next EP with Tom coming in April, with the first part exclusively available from this download series.

Here is the full story behind the track in case of interest -
When I was touring in Mexico, I was lucky enough to have some days off during a visit to Mexico City, and took a trip to a nearby Toltec/Aztec Pyramid site called Teotihuacan. It's a beautiful place, but when I asked about its history I was told that most of the knowledge and culture of the people who built it was lost, with the arrival of the Europeans. Now it's turned into a rebuilt money making tourist trap, with the loss of its real meaning.
I recorded the space and sounds there with binaural mics, so I could try and capture some of the feeling of it, including a storm which came in, and then I wrote a strings part inspired by the feelings of the visit there. Tom Hodge brought the piece to life by playing a piano part in addition, and I loved the piano so much I decided to make two parts, the first with the piano only, combined with the binaural recordings and a randomising delay feedback network, and the second part with the strings.
Tonight, a stunning debut Essential Mix from Max Cooper...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05364l2"I wanted to make this mix a fusion of everything that I love most about music, without any restraints. As a result it plays a little like a trip through the inside of my head. I was lucky enough to receive some amazing unreleased tracks from some of the best out there; Nils Frahm, Lusine, Rob Clouth and Tim Hecker. I've hidden a couple of new tracks of mine in there too. I hope there's something in there you enjoy!". Max Cooper February 2015.
