Nope. And that is a requirement for it, as I found out last night. It sounds mostly spoken-word, but there's also some singing going on. I need to find something that plays 78 to check it out.

You never know with those 78s, you can find some neat stuff on those. I know a guy who found a Robert Johnson single pressed on a dimestore label from the mid 40s. Last year I saw a collection anarchist speeches from the early 20s that looked pretty sweet.

The same thrift store had a complete French 78 collection of The Damnation of Faust.

Merry Christmas, indeed. Scored a new crown jewel for the collection in the form of Lush - Split on vinyl. Looks brand new, too, this beauty is immaculate. Plus Scott Walker - The Drift and Chvrches' album and for delayed gratification, preorders of cibo matto and st Vincent's new ones.

    Christmas swag:

    Carcass - Surgical Steel
Mastodon - Leviathan (Yellow sunburst vinyl)
    Death - Symbolic
    Windhand - Soma (purple vinyl)
    Daughn Gibson - Me Moan

And once I get my extra cash into the bank, I'm definitely ordering Slayer - Reign in Blood reissue.

I got Alexander Turnquist - Hallway of Mirrors. Great 12 string guitar record focused on harmonics, there's some other instrumentation at times like mallet percussion that can give it a Reich-ian feel.

Sweet. Leviathan is their best heaviest album imo.

    DJ Harlow - Waxwork
    Special Request - Ride
    Tessela - Hackney Parrot
    Vaib-R - Intl

    LP:
Black Hearted Brother - Stars Are Our Home
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
Julie Doiron and the Wooden Stars - Julie Doiron and the Wooden Stars
    Factory Floor - Factory Floor
Fottutissima Pellicceria Elsa - Fottutissima Pellicceria Elsa
Girls Names - The Next Life

Rival Schools - United By Fate
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness (remastered version)

The Paramount Records box set is the most gorgeously packaged recording I've ever seen. Unreal.

How much did Mellon Collie cost you? I've been thinking of getting it but haven't found it cheaper than $75 at my local store.

I don't know, I was given it as a gift. Maybe try Amazon? It is beautifully done though, at least based on the packaging. I was just about to throw it on so I'll let you know how the remaster sounds.

Verdict on the Mellon Collie remaster through sides A-D: It sounds pretty fantastic to me.

I guess people were complaining about the quality of the first LP when this was re-released last year, but the only thing I noticed was that the end of "Zero" sounded a little blown-out. It's possible it has always sounded this way and I never noticed, so I guess I'll compare it to the original CD in a bit.

Regardless, the packaging is beautiful and it sounds much more vibrant to me than it had before. They have done a good job with these reissues -- the original CDs sound really dense and compact to me, while the remasters breathe a bit more to my ears.

    Sadgiqacea - False Prism

It was $15 with shipping, such a good deal.

Justin Timberlake 20/20 Parts 1 and 2 LPs are on clearance at my local Target. 14.98 each. Wonder if they'll last a few more weeks and drop to 70% off ($9).

Scored a free copy of after dark 2 in triple clear vinyl. Chromatics gave them away during glass candy's set.

Also received a late Xmas gift in the form of Chelsea Wolfe - pain is beauty on red vinyl.

Went to a one dollar record sale at a local used book store. Nothing super special.

The Mama's and the Papa's - If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears
    Billy Joel - The Stranger
The Ventures - Walk Don't Run
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

But then I found this record, Orson Welles - The Begatting of The President, which is about the rise of Nixon. Should be good.

I hadn't been in the record store down the street for about a year. That's mostly because every time I go in, he has a ton of rare records in good shape and I end up spending a boatload. This time was no different, but check this shit out:

    LP:
Jean Carignan - Old Time Fiddle Tunes played by Jean Carignan
    Lost Sounds - Black Wave
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Otis Redding - The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul Ballads
Otis Redding & Carla Thomas - King & Queen
    Todd Rundgren - Faithful
    Amon Tobin - Permutation

    12":
M/A/R/R/S - Pump Up the Volume
    Propellerheads - Spybreak!
