Nice, the only thing I wanted out of RSD is that man man but I decided not to tempt myself by going to the store.

It'll be interesting to see what leftovers there'll be tomorrow. I passed on Sun Ra because I'm confident that's not a hot item.

It may be just Boise, but apparently that was the first thing that sold out at Record Exchange. That said, I would rather just pick up some of those Sun Ra reissues that have been put out by various labels in the past ten years. He had so much work that much of the smaller reissues (RSD stuff) tend to be lesser works.

Sun Ra was one of the first 5 records we sold out of at Origami this morning.

So I decided to skip the RSD madness yesterday morning, mainly because I am still fighting off a post-Coachella cold and felt like garbage when I woke up. I was feeling a bit better in the afternoon, though, and decided to head to my local used store Atomic as they were offering a discount on all items and I had a suspicion they would put out some really cool stuff for the day. I'm going through the Rock section, get to the "Cs," and notice some Cramps records (which they rarely, if ever, have): US OP versions of Gravest Hits, Songs the Lord Taught Us, Psychedelic Jungle, and the live album Smell of Female. I about fell over when I saw how clean these copies were, and I quickly put Songs... and Psychedelic... in my stack.

I finish shopping and get to the register to pay, and the two owners (brothers) are behind the counter - one is ringing me up, and the other is organizing some records. When he gets to the two Cramps albums immediately the brother ringing me up say "Wow, you lucked out! We just put those out maybe an hour ago." I said "Yeah, I was really surprised to see these OP versions and for them to be so clean too," and the other brother says "Well we've been sitting on them for TWO YEARS, so you really picked the right time to come!" Fucking score.

So I get home and head to Discogs to catalog the purchases. Psychedelic... is the OP US version with the rainbow sticker, the bright orange jacket, and the mail-order insert still inside. When I get to researching the copy of Songs..., though, I come to find that it is actually the very first pressing with all kinds of misprints on the label and jacket! This is really the first time I've had this kind of record-digging luck before, so pardon the long-ish story haha. Anyways, I left with:

    The Cramps - Psychedelic Jungle
The Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us
Brian Eno and David Byrne ‎– My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts
Talking Heads - Talking Heads: 77 (US OP)
Sparks - Angst In My Pants
Pixies - Limited Edition Interview Picture Disc
Soft Cell - "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" 12"

Origami didn't have a lot of what I wanted by the time I got through (or in some cases were never options) but I did score a few greats and a few for others. For some of these I got the last copy so my timing wasn't too off.
    Chvrches - recover
    Little Dragon - klapp klapp
David Bowie - 1984 (wanted this but giving to my friend and she ended up finding the Dresden dolls for me)
    Space Project 12"
Tame Impala - live versions (for one of my bosses that is on assignment far from any respectable store this weekend)
Of Montreal - satanic panic in the attic
Built To spill (for a record clubber)
Nick cave & warren Ellis (came with free figure and tickets to see him and warpaint in July so totally my best score.
    Liars 12"

Had some good mail waiting for me, too: Bat for Lashes - All Your Gold 7" (on gold vinyl) and Bored Spies - Summer 720 7" on sea green.

Bryan, awesome thrift shop score. Jason, awesome Cramps score. Two years they sat on those?! Good timing.

And if anyone anywhere finds a RSD copy of Sam Cooke - Ain't That Good News PLEASE buy it for me. Please. I'll pay shipping and give you a finder's fee. I need that record.

Got the Sir Richard Bishop/Alvarius B split off of Amoeba's website today. That's really all I cared about this RSD, so I am satisfied.

I'll keep an eye out here. Criminal in Atlanta had a bunch of copies, and I may be down there again toward the end of the week. Stupidly forgot to pick up that live Pogues/Strummer album.

Here's what I ended up with Saturday, a mix of RSD stuff, other assorted new things, and some used vinyl crate-digging:

The Afghan Whigs – Do to the Beast
    American Music Club – California
The Boomtown Rats – The Fine Art of Surfacing
Built to Spill – Ultimate Alternative Wavers (RSD)
    CHVRCHES – Recover EP (RSD)
Flesh for Lulu – Plastic Fantastic
Frightened Rabbit – Live from Criminal Records ATL 09.10.2013 (RSD)
    Hunters & Collectors – S/T
Hüsker Dü – Candy Apple Grey (RSD)
    Loop – A Gilded Eternity
The Muppet Movie Original Soundtrack Recording (RSD)
    Pixies – Indie Cindy (RSD)
The Pooh Sticks – Formula One Generation
Protomartyr – Under Color of Official Right
Public Enemy – It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (RSD)
    Lou Reed – Transformer
    The Teardrop Explodes – Wilder
    Ultra Vivid Scene – S/T
    Various – Dunedin Double (RSD)
The Velvet Underground – Loaded (RSD)
The Verlaines – Hallelujah All the Way Home
    The Verlaines – Juvenilia
The Waterboys – A Pagan Place
    Paul Westerberg – Eventually

There's roughly 300 that are still in RSD stock as of today, so I think it'd be worth calling your record store and asking them to order it for the shop.

Can't wait for this to come out

This summer, Plain Recordings will reissue Spiritualized’s 1993 live album Fucked Up Inside — originally released as a 1,000-copy mail-order edition — on 180-gram vinyl in a reproduction of the original silver foil-embossed sleeve. The new edition of the seven-track live album will be limited to 3,000 copies, the label announced this morning.

Fucked Up Inside, the first live record from Jason Pierce’s ongoing post-Spacemen 3 concern, was recorded in November 1992 at the Palladium in Los Angeles and the Warfield in San Francisco during the tour in support of the band’s debut that year, Lazer Guided Melodies.

    Tracklist: Spiritualized, Fucked Up Inside

    1. “Take Good Care Of It”
    2. “I Want You”
    3. “Medication”
    4. “Angel Sigh”
    5. “Walking With Jesus”
    6. “Shine A Light”
    7. “Smiles”

Oh yeah, I found a used copy of Mogwai - Kicking a Dead Pig at Amoeba for $15 earlier this week. Bargain since it contains 3 records. I don't usually keep up with remixes but some of them are really good and I'm a sucker for colorful vinyl.

    Other recent purchases:
    Pulp - After You
Cat Power - Sun (clear vinyl with bonus tracks and 7")
Chvrches - The Bones of What You Believe (red vinyl)
Chelsea Wolfe - Unknown Rooms (smoky gold transparent vinyl)
    Michael Jackson - Thriller
