Official CD/LP purchases thread

As someone who sold some of his vinyl in the mid/late 90's, I'd urge caution. If you have the space to keep them, keep them. While I think cd's will be easier to re-buy compared to vinyl should you sell them and regret it in the future, why sell if you don't have to ??

I don't really understand why you'd think CD will make a resurgence as a preferred format. I suspect shaker and I are in the same boat, I haven't actually listened to my CDs in at least 5, maybe 10 years. Storage space is at a premium in SF, and most people don't want to hang on to things they know they'll never use again.

Yeah, but that doesn't make sense. Why buy two copies of the same exact thing when there are no new songs, new art, new mastering or anything else that might give someone reason to get the reissue?

to be fair a lot of us didn't expect vinyl to make a resurgence either. as unlikely as it seems that CDs will become useful or desirable again, the future is hard to predict.

Well, that's the argument many people have behind the resurgence of vinyl as a medium: that it offers superior audio quality, that the art is larger and thus more engaging, sometimes interesting packaging and the mode of listening all have been argued as why vinyl is, for some people, resurgent as a format. Comparing the relative worth invites that suggestion, even if you did say you think they'd be easier to rebuy.
