Hmm... it never crossed my mind, but I gotta hit up records stores in Bakersfield later this month.

(Lucky me, I got a wedding to go to in Bakersfield... on Memorial Day weekend!)

I went to a few of them. World Records or whatever was so so, but Going Underground was a real gem. I could have easily spent $300-400 on rare things there, and the guy working the store was very friendly and knowledgeable, and his son was playing Super Mario World the whole time I was in there. Really cool place.

Yeah, that's a great little shop. They had a copy of Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue that I should have pulled the trigger on and bought.

Finally got to check out the new used vinyl store that opened nearby. It's surprisingly good for rural Georgia. So good, in fact, that it could end up being really dangerous. Here's yesterday's haul, all reasonably priced (most in the $5-6 range) in really good condition:

    LP:
    Blondie – Parallel Lines
    David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust
David Bowie – Station to Station
Elvis Costello & The Attractions – Get Happy!!
    Duran Duran – S/T
    Elton John – Honky Chateau
Liz Phair – Exile in Guyville
Siouxsie & The Banshees – Nocturne
Squeeze – Sweets from a Stranger
    The Stranglers – Rattus Norvegicus
Talking Heads – More Songs About Buildings and Food
Talking Heads – Remain in Light
    XTC – Mummer

The owner looked like Ted Nugent and had a "Terrorist Hunting Permit" sticker on the counter, but when I brought my stack to the register he immediately says, "Oh, man. That Liz Phair just went out yesterday. I haven't even had a chance to listen to it yet."

    Also, some mail-order vinyl came:
Admiral Fallow – Tree Bursts in Snow (RSD)
Frightened Rabbit – The Midnight Organ Fight (RSD)
    Savages – Silence Yourself
Wax Idols – Discipline & Desire

And now I'm done while I can still afford to eat.

Finally got around to inquiring about the lack of status update on my discogs order. Seller apologized and said it shipped last week. Came home and it was here. Packaging was pretty bad, two pieces of cardboard and some brown tape.... records managed to stay in good shape.

Does anybody ever feel bad when selling something that just seems so damn expensive? I am thinking of selling my Massive Attack vs Burial ‎– Four Walls / Paradise Circus, but the cheapest one of Discogs right now is 255, seeing as how I paid a fraction of that I kind of feel like a dick if I sell it for that price.

Oh hey, I got a few used CD's:

    The Cure - Wish
Ministry - In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up (Live)
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I sold a copy of Colin Meloy's Morrissey covers CD for $125 when I bought it for $5. I felt no shame, as someone was immediately willing to pay that much for it. In an era where anyone can access these songs on the internet for free, if people are willing to spend exorbitant amounts for the physical media, I say let them.

Bottom are a few more RSD pickups. Got lucky with the Modern Vampire of the City white vinyl + tote bag.

Forever Changes on vinyl is the kind of thing that should melt from being overplayed in the summertime.

Castle Face just put some more copies of the limited edition version of Floating Coffin back up for sale on their website; you can get it on either clear with blood red splatter or on "space lego green," and both come with a 7" flexi: http://www.castlefacerecords.com/pro...loating-coffin

Has anyone ever had problems with something ordered from PopMarket? Yesterday I got the first four Ramones albums on vinyl; Leave Home skips periodically and Rocket to Russia skips so much it's virtually unlistenable. Wasn't sure if this was just bad luck or if this is characteristic of their product.

I've never had that problem with anything I have ordered from them. Is it a deficiency in the record (something you can see), or can you hear static interference in the grooves? If so, a carbon fiber brush may solve your problem. If they were sealed (and I assume they were) then it's probably just crap from the pressing plant or crap floating in the air in your home that got fixed in the grooves.

Do you have tracking issues with any other records? If so, you could try adding a little more weight on the stylus. Like Bryan said, though, it's likely just particulates that got trapped in the grooves somewhere along the way.

I was in Black Canyon City meeting a friend for lunch and dropped into the local thrift store looking for records. Some weirdo hoarder/junker jumped up out of nowhere and said he had 300+ records to give to me free. In five minutes I was at his property loading boxes of records. Kept a few:

    The Beatles - White Album
Barry White - Sings for Someone You Love
Andy Gibb - Flowing Rivers ("I Just Want to be Your Everything" is my jam.)
Ray Charles - Greatest Hits (ABC/Paramount)
Fats Domino - This is Fats Domino!
    The Who - Who's Next
Dolly Parton - Here You Come Again
Glen Campbell - The Last Time I Saw Her
    Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy
    Leon Russell - Americana
Simon & Garfunkel - The Concert in Central Park
Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
Rolling Stones - Between the Buttons
Lynyrd Skynyrd - One More From the Road
    Elvis - Elvis in Concert
Nat King Cole & George Shearing - Nat King Cole Sings/George Shearing Plays
Nat King Cole - Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer
Sammy Davis Jr - What Kind of Fool Am I
    Bob Seger - Night Moves

Was able to trade the rest into Zia for

    Love - Forever Changes (RSD)
Ray Charles - some random one on Dot that I can't recall the name of off-hand

Unfortunately, he also gave me two boxes of reels of magnetic tape and a vintage Akai (made in Japan!) reel-to-reel player & 4-track recorder. Shit is heavy & nice, and it works. I wish I could take it back to SF with me, but I don't believe I can carry that on. So it's going to Goodwill. Someone is going to be psyched when they find that ...
