That's the only actual Basie record I have. Everything else is either a comp/collection or he's playing on someone else's track. It's really good. Ton of different players, but Lester Young throws down with Illinois Jacquet, Jimmy Rushing does vocals on a couple, Buddy Rich makes a brief but memorable appearance. Roy Eldridge shows up on the last track and takes it to the next level. Love Roy Eldridge.

    Convince me by tomorrow morning:

Should I buy Soundgarden - Badmotorhead and PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love for $35?

Why am I asking? I just did it.

Sexy cover or psychedelic cover? I love that album. I'm totally gonna put that on tonight. You should really try to find The Cry of Love by Hendrix. It blew my mind the first time I heard it; a posthumous release with some of his best work.

I just recently came up on a Basie & Ellington - 'First Time! The Count Meets the Duke', and wow such an incredible session of music!

Pearl Jam bundle finally arrived. Cant complain too much, felt i had a fair enough warning.

Sadly it's the psychedelic cover, and it's not in the best of shape either; the records are really clean though, and for me that's what matters the most. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for The Cry of Love too.

It was $18; the condition of the box, the three jackets, and the records themselves are phenomenal, although it is missing the poster. I might have overpaid a bit for this, but whatevs - I fucking love this album.

About a year ago Zack and I went to Amoeba. There were four copies of All Things Must Pass in the dollar section. It was insane. I made him buy one.

Bryan, is that you're nice way of saying that I did, indeed, overpay? And yes, $1 for that album is a crazy stupid deal - were the boxes all torn to shreds or something?

Naw, I paid about $15 for my copy. It was just crazy that they had that many copies of that album in the dollar bin. They were mostly in good condition too: no real mess on the boxes, the discs were all fine. I was confounded.

That's really strange, as you don't expect to find those kinds of deals at Amoeba.

Serious. But, to be fair, if you spend enough time with the dollar section you can come away with pure gold. I got most of my Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, John Fahey and AC/DC records from there, and one day I found the Replacements - Let It Be and Pleased To Meet Me.

That definitely sounds worth it! Me too

What the heck, the only thing you'll ever find in my local store's dollar bin is some Jim Nabors Sings The Lords Prayers or something.

I'm with Bryan, the clearance bin is where I do the majority of my best work. And I actually have two copies of All Things Must Pass. How could I pass up a NM copy w/ poster for $5? Impossible. Now I have one copy to play and one to keep.

EDIT: And speaking of clearance, I saw this guy the other day training his daughter.

PS Bryan (and everyone else)...you need to check out all of the LPs mentioned in the above post. Banque Allemande is super minimal punk rock from Germany. Reminds me a lot of Feedtime, in terms of relentless pummeling. I've pushed Follakzoid and the Holydrug Couple on here before -- both are Chilean and rooted in psychedelia. Follakzoid is more krautrock sounding, Holydrug is more heavy psych. Monoshock is crazy, blown-out garage with a Hawkwind feel. The record above is described as psychedelic punk, which is pretty accurate. Spray Paint is angular punk rock that gets weird but is tuneful too.

Anyway, all of said bands are worth learning about. Check em out.

I've listened to both Follakzoid and Holydrug per your and others recommendations: awesome stuff. Banque Allemande sounds interesting, but Monoshock is the one that sounds like they most deserve my ears. That description is fantastic.
