Got a buncha $1 records and added some to the cassette pile. Didn't really go out for RSD items, avoided going for anything pricey, and settled on long overdue purchases of Thriller and 1999. Currently spinning Summer Twins. Nice day to go out.

Yeeeessss. If I ever make it down to hang out, we're listening to those.

    RSD haul:

    Grateful Dead - Winterland 5/30/71
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros - Live at Acton Town Hall
    Love - Forever Changes
Link Wray - 7" set (I forget the title, but the songs rip so hard.)

    Thanksgiving Haul from my uncle

Steve Martin - A Wild and Crazy Guy
Meco - Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk (disco + Star Wars music = awesome)
Star Wars - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
    Elton John - Greatest Hits
    The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta
    Billy Joel - The Stranger
Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Porgy & Bess (on Verve, yes!)
    Billy Joel - Piano Man
Fletcher Henderson - Developing An American Orchestra 1923-1937
J.R.R. Tolkien - J.R.R. Tolkien Reads and Sings His Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Return of the King
J.R.R. Tokien - J.R.R. Tolkien Reads and Sings The Hobbit & the Fellowship of the Ring
Gene Rodenberry - Inside Star Trek
Footsteps on the Moon - Sounds of the Apollo 11 Mission

Plus a whole lot of decent stuff in NM condition to sell on ebay. A good day for record acquisition.

Make it over now. Next week I'm moving back home for a while, so I'll be living in Bishop, which is just south of Yosemite and right by Mammoth Mountain. Come ski and do a record club!

Meco - Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk (disco + Star Wars music = awesome)

These all sound delightfully bizarre. I would love to hear what Tolkien sounded like.

I'll just have to come to Bishop, I suppose.

My uncle is an astronomer, so his tastes fall somewhere between "nerdy" and "totally bizarre." The Tolkien records are a trip.

I managed not to buy records on Black Friday.

Greg, didn't we listen to the Star Wars soundtrack at record club once? (I think Chris brought it). That was surprisingly fun to listen to.

Holy cow: someone on r/vinyl posted that Hot Topic is having a "50% off all items" sale online (use promo code: 50OFF4BF) and, coupled with their free shipping for orders over $30, I just picked up all of this for $80:

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
The Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust
    Daft Punk - Homework
The Smiths - Hatful Of Hollow (reissue)
    Screaming Females - Ugly
    Tool - Undertow
Tool - Lateralus 2xLP Picture Disc
    Minor Threat - Self-Titled

They also still had copies of In/Casino/Out on grey/pink splattered vinyl for those who didn't pick it up when it was first released.

They've also got copies of Burst and Bloom by Cursive, which was a RSD only repress, and Modest Mouse-Good News For People Who Love Bad News, which I'm pretty sure is OOP.

Yea there are quite a few good deals there. Noticed at least a dozen releases that you'd be hard pressed to find for less, used, even. My resolve to not spend money this week has been broken again and again.

I'm sorely tempted by the Pig Destroyer and Titus Andronicus albums, since they're half off. Don't know if I should do that though; I kind of wanted to buy the Drift by Scott Walker today.

Fuck. The new Titus Andronicus is already sold out.

EDIT: Damn. Collection I, Pretty Hate Machine, Lateralus, In/Casino/Out, Energy, Streetcore, Shields, Book Burner .... Too much stuff, I can't justify all of it.

Did anyone pick up the Wanda Jackson Black Friday RSD release? If you are willing to part with it, I would pay you what you paid + shipping. It would be much appreciated

Well, glad I didn't do the Hot Topic deal. Dropped by Amoeba on my way back from Bishop and picked up:

    Scott Walker - the Drift
    Leonard Cohen - Various Positions

Edit: These were such steals. The Drift was 14, and it sounded unplayed. The Cohen record was 5, and, other than the outermost grooves, there is not a lick of surface noise. So happy with these.

I heard a track from Chocomel Daze today and it sounded like it was recorded in the bathroom.

I love Dinosaur Jr. so I'm biased, but I don't think it sounds as horrible as Pitchfork said. This is by no means a well-recorded live album, but you will be into it if you have any experience listening to bootlegs where you can make out everything that is going on but it sounds like it's coming from another room. Some of the performances are blistering, so it is worth it just for that in my opinion.

Which one? The fidelity starts out REALLY bad for the first track but then gets better (relatively speaking.)

Raisans. The performance sounded great, but it was super smashed together and muted.

I emailed about this today since it has been over a month since our last update, and got an almost immediate response - good news this time:

"hey Jason - we just received the first box (solid pink) of these this morning! The mixed vinyl apparently takes a bit longer to complete but we are hoping to have all records shipped within the next two weeks, hopefully sooner!"
