agreed... if you type in 'vinyl grading system' there are a number of resources. But unless your record is close to flawless, its going to be tough determining a price that's fair to both you and the purchaser.

If your looking to dump records w/out dealing with all of the headache of grading them, then id suggest record swaps.

Thanks for this too - I don't know how I missed your post the first time :/

Good advice, although I don't really have many to sell - the people at the Pasadena flea market show up with lots of stuff.

I go by the Goldmine score most of the time, but when I eyeball things, I have my own quick system.

M - Unopened, sealed OR in shrink and I know I was the one who opened it and played only once
NM +/NM types - In shrink, but I played more than once; Not in shrink, but looks relatively flawless with no shelf or ring wear; Shiny, clean record with no wear on the inner hole; has original inner sleeves or inserts
VG + types - Minimal shelf or ring wear on sleeve; might be missing inserts; wear on label is minor; record is shiny but shows signs of repeated play
VG - try not to buy anything below this; worn sleeve might have markings (writing) or might be slightly dirty/faded (nothing extreme); record shows use or has small scratches

I disagree. It's simply a matter of selling records for what they're worth, even if that means pulling some profit. I sell a ton of VG+ records. I'm not gouging anybody with inflated prices and I'm not taking a loss either. However, I do sell to friends/respected acquaintances at cost.

Yesterday my stepdad gave me his old Technics SL-7, which still works great! He did, however, forget to give me the preamp he had bought for it (Nikko Betta 20), so I'm going to have to wait until I go to SD again to really judge how the LS-7 sounds. Has anyone ever used either of these two before?

The SL-7 is a neat little turntable. Simple, super compact design that's well engineered and surprisingly sturdy. The only issue I recall a friend of mine having was heat when the dust cover was kept closed too long. Not hot enough to warp records, but enough to aggravate the static electricity on the disc and attract dust and particles. Pretty minor stuff.

The thing is like a little tank! Seriously though, all the things I've read about it online have said the same thing you have - sturdy design, great features, and the static issue you mention. I'm curious to know what the stylus sounds like - it is the stock Ortofon 14.

The comment was meant for someone not comfortable w/ grading records.... Unless you've done it a number of times and actually made a few sales its tough starting out. Im still not entirely comfortable pricing items.

Yeah. It isn't an amazing record or anything, but it is exactly as advertised: J and his stoner buddies jamming out. J rips, as usual.

I think this thread single-handedly influenced me to purchase many more LPs than I would have if I weren't subscribed to it. Luckily my wallet can take the hit so far.

I don't think J. ever plays a riff on it. The whole album is him just going crazy soloing. It's a lot of fun, but yeah, nothing incredible.

I've been writing a paper and I needed inspiration:

    Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
    Smog - Red Apple Falls

I celebrated the end of law school at Amoeba:

Conlon Nancarrow - Complete Studies for Player Piano, Vol. 4
    Herbie Hancock - Headhunters
    Gilberto Gil - Nightingale
The Rolling Stones - Some Girls
    Phillip Glass - North Star
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works, Vol. 2

The Conlon Nancarrow record is hot as fuck. I've been looking for stuff by him for so long now.
