I wonder how people would react to a jam band like Phish at Coachella.

I doubt they'd be booked. Phish had a whole weekend of performing at the Polo fields a couple of years ago. Also, Coachella tends not to book jam-bands. That's Bonnaroo's thing.
Coachellas attended: 2007-present
Phish are better when they are doing their own thing. the confines of a festival slot makes them cut out like a third of their show.

Phish sucks
Terrible thread
no.
the music is what its all about, you love it just like i love it.
Phish bad. Very bad.
Anything is possible...
as a diehard phish fan it would be pretty tight. Since 09, they've played Roo, Austin City Limits, and Outside Lands.
Coachella is possible but I do believe that the coachella demographic wouldn't go for phish generally because the coachella demographic is a bunch of stuck up hipster douchebags that only want to see bands that are on pitchfork's best new music.
Phish would kill the polo fields and would melt faces off every non-prescription glasses wearing fool there.
The only actual reason I wouldn't see it working is because Phish generally always plays 2 sets, even at festivals. Can't see Coachella letting that work out for them. Obviously they would be headlining if they were billed.
but hey, Trey does like a lot of indie sorts of music. I know he digs Beach House and shit like that. who knows.
Unlikely but would be pretty fuckin' sweet.
barf
this is a horrible idea
please no
Saw them play about a half-hour at the Bridge School a bunch of years ago and they killed it. If they got a 1.5 hour slot, I'm sure they could find a way to entertain.
The idea is to not turn coachella into the roo.
Last I checked, Coachella tries to incorporate variety. Adding a jam band would just increase the variety. Phish would throw down a ridiculous set headlinig Coachella, but theyd need to play like 3 hours. Their outside lands time slot was actually 6:30-10:00. They got to play their full 2 sets and encore they usually do. But Austin city limits they did a 2 hour time slot, and just played 1 long set and an encore.

"I'm sorry, I can't hear hippies."
Oysterhead would be cool!
It wasn't enough that Phish had their own event on the polo fields already? We don't need need stinky hippies buying tickets that hot bitches would get instead.......
Don't get all worked up people. Keep in mind that Phish sells out 20,000 person capacity shows in minutes though. Including four nights in a row at Madison Square Garden this year. Does that mean they belong at Coachella? I could see it going both ways. The only real assholes of Coachella though are on the forums. Everyone else is pretty accepting and open to new music and ideas.
With that being said, Coachella could stand to use more variety. Just because a band played at Bonnaroo, doesn't mean they belong only at Bonnaroo. The festivals share the same headliners every year. I think Phish could impress a lot of people who have never heard them, but instead have only seen South Park depictions and the like.
Yeah, hippies don't exist anymore...just fake ones. They're called wooks. But I'd say they would tend to stay away from Coachella regardless of Phish playing. They probably dislike Coachella goers more than Coachella goers dislike them.
All Coachella boardies hate music. Yup.
You would have to be a serious asshole to not enjoy yourself at a Phish show...
Cooler than a polar bears toenails.
