Booooooooooo rain!!
"Concert is rain or shine"
The Cosmo should have been prepared considering the likelihood of rain this evening.
I agree, especially after what happened with Bloc Party. Why couldn't it have been moved inside to the Chelsea? Because of a convention they had there? Smaller capacity inside? It just sucked to have to walk out of there unfulfilled.
My buddy is a pilot and the weather services were reporting heavy storms in the Las Vegas area from 4pm Weds thru Thursday. He went to the show last night and he was very surprised that the show was going on outdoors given it had been stormy in the Valley.
He said the Cosmo said they would be refunding ticketholders on request.
I've worked gigs at the Chelsea before. Its a major undertaking to get everything set up in there although its about 30-40 yards away from the pool it was most likely not enough time to tear everything down and then reset it. A stage for them wouldve taken 4-6 hours alone to build. You all shouldve come to the Cee Lo Green Xmas special taping I worked last night instead. It was thouroughly entertaining.
So where there special guests at this? I almost went but didn't in the end.
I am very interested in this!

I remember last year Holiday Havoc was 2 days but 1 day was cancelled because Jane's Addiction pulled out.
http://austin.culturemap.com/newsdet...nent-sxsw-v2v/
SXSW coming to Vegas next year
Jane's canccelled but both nights were held. I went for Joy Formidable & stayed for most of the Naked & Famous. There was a large glamour photo of Dave Navarro hanging on the wall entrance to the womens restroom. A crowd was gathered and people were taking pictures of themselves giving Dave's the finger. Joy Formidable was stunningly good live.
I guess I didn't investigate it very well, I just assumed since Jane's Addiction cancelled the day was off so I skipped it.
As for SXSW, it's always been that expensive, most people don't even buy badges, they just go to the free parties with bands.
I don't know if any of that will be going down in Vegas like Austin.
Anyone else really sad and disappointed at Cosmo's apparent end of booking their free shows for the Book and Stage? I would be willing to pay a cover if necessary. They were one of the few places in town booking great mid-tier indie, blues, jazz, afrobeat, etc. artists. I miss their shows.
They stopped because it was costing them a shitload of money and they were taking so little at the bar and losing a shitload of money throughout the casino. I guess a bunch of hipsters clutching bottles of water doesn't pay off.
I know I saw several bands on weekday nights where there were 30 people in there and maybe 20 watching the band. I am talking bands like Electric Six, Young The Giant, Best Coast etc.
To be honest it is a good thing they stopped because they were killing local venues like Bunkhouse, Beauty Bar, Double Down etc. My buddy at the Bunkhouse was having major issues getting people to pay covers of $5-10 because people were saying I can see this band for free. The Cosmo was effectively killing local venues and that wasn't a good thing. Free shows love them, but not at the cost of shutting down small, local venues.
That's too bad! I saw so many people there including Foster the People, Marina and the Diamonds, Vintage Trouble and many more!!!
I think one of the funniest nights was the Marina and the Diamonds night. The bartender was talking so much trash about Marina, about how she was such a bitch to them etc. And the best line was, "And she thinks she's PJ Harvey, I got news for her, she's not even close!"
Also Brad Garrett showed up that night and this drunk guy kept pestering him and saying over and over again, "You are not as tall as I thought you would be sir." And Brad's response was "Great kid." and he kept trying to get away from the guy but that space is so small. Finally he just had to sit in the corner with his friends to get away from that guy.
Toro y Moi is playing the Cosmopolitan on Dec. 28th
