the music is what its all about, you love it just like i love it.
So many stupid people giving stupid opinions about a stupid list.
People not liking them doesn't even make sense anyways, because I would say the Germs are one of the best punk bands of all time, and fuck the Germs.
5/15-17/15 - Psycho CA @ Observatory // 5/22/15 - Laura Jane Grace @ Hollywood Forever Cemetary // 5/27/15 - Neutral Milk Hotel @ Warner Grand Theater
6/3/15 - Sufjan Stevens @ Dorothy Chandler // 7/15/15 - Shellac @ Regent // 7/31/15 - Melt Banana w/Torche @ Roxy
apparently, 80s hardcore is essential, while 90s hardcore is ridiculous.
20 years and still going strong.
The Ramones were the start of everything, as far as I can tell, and therefore deserve top honors. But Green Day are the most commercially successful punk band, I don't think there's any arguing that. I always thought it was kind of lame that the 924 Gilman crowd begrudged them their success. But when my wife and I went by there last year, it was pretty clear from the people we talked to that they're proud of their local hero's nowadays, as they should be, Green Day are a fucking great band and their shows have been a blast over the years.
They definitely rank right up there. I'd have Bad Religion on there too.
I love Ramones, but they'd never deny that most of their music was just amped up girl-group music and 50s rock, played fast. So if we wanna give top honors, how about Johnny Cash, Ronnie Spektor or Link Wray? Fuckin' punk rock right there.
On "the" list.
and the Pistols were just Chuck Berry played loud and fast. at least the riffs were. But I think in both the case of the Ramones and the Sex Pistols, the vocals and lyrics were such a departure that it made a whole new thing.
Trying to analyze, label, and rate punk rock is so oxymoronic.
I do not think that word means what you think it means.
