Fortunetely, someone started a thread about this the other day:
    http://www.coachella.com/forum/showt...about-good-EDM

There's a lot of good information in there. Especially the podcast suggestions. Subscribing to reliable podcasts, in my opinion, is the easiest way to get turned onto good new electronic music because they're automatically downloaded to your iTunes. You need only hit 'play.' I think this post was the most useful from that thread:

The following will provide exposure to a wide variety of genres, some moreso than others.

    RA podcast
    FACT mix
    xlr8r podcast
    mnml ssgs mix series
    smoke machine podcast
    John Osborn's TANSTAAFL series

Ignore the Essential Mix. Its mostly pathetic these days.

    As to live sets: http://soundcloud.com/r_co.
Going back through this thread and the House thread will steer you in the right direction as well.

Ive never understood this genre label. Why do they call things minimal that has so much actually going on? Do they just try and differentiate from banger party housr/techno?

Haha my sentiments exactly! Glad Culture Collide picked him up cause I wouldn't have bought a ticket just for him and Joey. I would have wept at home instead.

I will admit i have not scanvanged through this entire thead. However, when i hear respected people talk about "minimal" as a genre it really throws me off. Why and where does the term minimal apply to interesting house and techno?

We had this discussion in this thread w/in the first 10 pages IIRC. When people talk about minimal techno they usually mean the m-nus type stuff of the mid-noughties, but it has other connotations of a more aged vintage.

"Minimal" house, to me, is really what people commonly refer to as micro-house.

Edit: Feel free to disregard all of the above. People far more knowledgeable than I have far more enlightening thoughts on the mattter.

No I'd agree that is a good push in the right direction. Just peruse this thread, especially in the beginning, and you'll find great examples with discussion on the topic. It's evolved quite a bit, and now its used as a more general term which can be pretty confusing to someone who doesn't follow techno closely. Purists will argue that it's often misused in today's context though, so much of this is debatable anyways. Good luck.

Nate, I did listen you to your Herald track yesterday but not on my good headphones or intently. I will, and I'll give you my feedback.

    * Edit: Shifted RA podcast is now my favorite mix of the year.

I have not had a chance to listen to this yet. Still trying to listen to tracks and mixes sent to me in November. I have this giant list of links and downloads that I go through systematically. And yes, folks here produce.
