Yea, I have completely relapsed (gotten worse actually) on my illness, so right now I'm saving everything I've got for Lucy/PvH/morning parties and assuming I will probably flake on everything else for the weekend.

Still, people talking about how amazing Optimo was are giving me second thoughts...

Glad to finally see some sort of review of Lucy's set. And for those going to Surgeon - there are some extremely jealous people up here.

Not the West Coast. At least not recently as far as I can remember. Think he was booked in NYC not long ago but had to cancel last minute.

I strongly suggest seeing Lucy in SF or otherwise if the chance ever presents itself. He was outstanding in LA.

Giving the new John Talabot album a first listen. Really excellent stuff here.

Can't wait to hear this gem played out at the end of long night:

    Magic.

^^ guedita and ross and gribbs have been talking about that one a lot today, glad they brought it up or I would have missed it. I've already listened to it twice this afternoon. So, so good.

I haven't checked out the whole album yet, but just listened to that track and got enjoyable shivers of delight.

That mix caused me to text something really crude, along the lines of "if I had a dick, it would be hard right now," when I listened to it earlier today. Loooove it.

I appreciate the direction Talabot has taken w/ the new LP. Very of a piece w/ the here and now of dance music. But in briefly mining his discography I stumbled across this blissed out gem from last year that I'd completely forgotten about. I've been listening to a lot of dark, smoky, leftfield stuff as of late and hearing this was a welcome respite. Happy vibes aplenty. Put a smile on my face and a spring in my step.

The original of that is one of those things that got almost universal love and didn't do anything for me. I don't know. It's all about "Sunshine." That's where the true euphoria's at.

Me neither, but Talabot's remix crushes the original.

Always feel like listening to this. Faster version is better but that doesn't seem to exist online.

Love Tornado Wallace. Does he still play much in Australia? Or has he run off to Europe, a la most of our quality DJ's/producers in the states?

The Revenge is touring the states in the spring. Few 6th Borough Project shows sprinkled in I think (I know its 6th Borough Project in SF).

He did leave for several months last year but returned in November. Thought he went to America. Lucky for me he plays most weekends in Melbourne since returning.

Missed The Revenge when he was here. Overdid it seeing Motor City/6th Borough. Dates? Also on a side note, who is playing the LA area (or nearby) in April? Will be in LA for a couple of weeks and really want to see some decent sets.

This rooftop party sounds very tempting.

^ Yea that's Craig Richards as well for the same event. Normally you just email to droog.la@gmail.com to RSVP / for reduced entry. They'll have something on facebook soon enough.

Its a consistently good pary. You should give it a go.

Moving onto more esoteric matters, Peter Van Hoesen said this in a recent interview:

How do you feel your music is received in the US versus Europe?

Whenever I play in the US I feel that people are experiencing my sets a little bit different than in Europe. The US has a different dance culture, and this is reflected on the dancefloor. The crowd has a really profound understanding of bass – this is one thing I have noticed several times in the past – in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Minneapolis.

Another thing I noticed is that the people are very vocal here. The dancefloor is alive. It’s quite a communal thing, and that’s great. A few weeks ago I was talking about this with DJ Qu from New York, and he basically noticed the same thing. The crowd in the US moves differently than in Europe, there is a different style of dancing on the floor. I find this fascinating
What do you guys make of this?

There's not much that can touch SAW, but there's so many other flavors that do what they do just as brilliantly in their own way.

Probably more suited for the IDM thread but I don't feel like digging it up. I got about halfway through the new Leila before needing to hear Blood, Looms & Blooms. Such a fantastic album. Clearly the new one didn't strike me but I'm going to give it serious attention at a later date. It seems like the kind of thing that'll worm its way into my head over time.

This says basically nothing, because he doesn't qualify what the European dance floor does. I don't disagree that there are profound differences, but he doesn't state them. Also, guess what? A New York dance crowd is most likely incredibly more different than a Minneapolis one. I'm sure that there is something to be said and evaluated and discussed about the different dance floor cultures of the States (and the states within the states) and Europe, but this is just a bullshit response to a bullshit interview question.
