    Fat Mike

You're a politically outspoken guy. Do you make sure all of the bands on your label assign themselves to that?

Yeah. I'm not going sign a band that's religious or republican or homophobic. They don't necessarily have to be political but there certainly can't be spreading word of something I can't believe in. I was going to sign the Smoking Popes. I was talking to their manager. "Is the singer Christian?" "Yeah." So I go, "Really Christian? Believes in Noah's Ark and shit like that?" He goes, "Yeah, he's very Christian. He goes to church a lot. He believes in all that stuff." And I said, "Oh, well, I'm sorry. I don't want to sign the band anymore." The manager thought I was kidding. He goes, "We just agreed to this deal," and I go, "He's going to be spreading the word of Jesus around. I'm not comfortable signing them." I said, "Good luck with everything, but I'm not involved with this anymore."
Less Than Jake, Borders & Boundaries

That was funny because we finally got Less Than Jake on the label and they gave us a record that was nothing like their old ska punk records. It was really just pop-punk. I was like "Wow, you gave us the record where you're changing your sound." I wanted—I thought they were going to give me a record that sounded like "Welcome to Gainesville." They sent me a demo years before and I said no.

    Merge Records

We are making a zine celebrating Bob Mould and we need your help--send us your stories, drawings, comics, and tributes! We’ll collect our favorites and publish them in the very first Merge zine, to be distributed on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at independent record stores in celebration of Record Store Day!
Written submissions should be no longer than 250 words and can be sent to BobMouldZine [at] gmail [dot] com. Feel free to include a photo or scan of your favorite Bob Mould memorabilia, too! The deadline to have your contribution considered for the zine is January 30, 2016.

Your post just reminded me of this:

Saetia discography to be reissued by Touché Amoré frontman’s label

Defunct New York screamo pioneers Saetia will see their discography reissued later this year by Secret Voice, the imprint label of Deathwish Inc. founded by Touché Amoré vocalist Jeremy Bolm. The collection, appropriately titled Collected, will be released as a 2xLP and digitally; according to Bolm, its tracklisting is only “slightly” different to that of A Retrospective, the 2000 compilation of Saetia’s discography released by Level Plane (the now-defunct record label ran by former Saetia drummer Greg Drudy). You can watch a teaser video for the release below.

In similarly exciting news, Secret Voice has surprise-released a previously unavailable Saetia live show from ABC No Rio in 1999 on cassette and digital download (purchase). You can also stream that below.

For those unaware, Saetia is considered the most groundbreaking screamo band from the East Coast, forming in 1997 and taking what made the Gravity Records scene in California so exciting and adding in their own unique sound. The band was riddled with lineup changes (including the sudden death of bassist Alex Madara in 1998) and eventually broke up in 2000. Members of Saetia went on to play in similar-sounding bands like Hot Cross, Off Minor as well as some true oddball ones (guitarist Adam Marino played bass in guitarist Tom Capone’s post-Quicksand group Instruction; Greg Drudy was Interpol’s original drummer).

I bought the tape a few weeks ago, and it comes with a $5 off code for the 2xLP when it comes out.

Wow, I've never been a fan of Aksumite's releases but I figured I might as well check out the new one, and it's a huge step up from their previous work. Great riffs:

Weekend Nachos and Bent Life killed that shit tonight. If you didn't see Weekend Nachos on this farewell tour you fucked up.

Also, I fell like with WN, ACxDC and (to a lesser extent) Nails all breaking up its the end of the Powerviolence resurgence. That's a fucking shame bc that's one of the greatest subgenres of extreme music that really hasn't fully been explored yet. That said anyone that wants to start a power violence band hmu I've been itching to forever now
