Bad Company should have headlined. One of the greatest bands ever. Especially with Paul Rodgers singing.

Wrong Bad Company
This is the Bad Company that played Coachella 2001 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Com...nd_bass_group)
My first year. I remember seeing Nikka Costa, St Germain & Fatboy Slim. There must have been a whole lot of wandering around in between.
St. Germain was stunning. For me, they set a standard by which all future sunset sets would be judged against.
Fatboy Slim killed it. And I have been massively disappointed by him the two times I've seen him since (including his Coachella set a few years ago).

Right. I brought my then-girlfriend with me, and we got separated at the male/female search lines going in. It was between 11-12 noon, blazing hot, and the lines were moving really slow. When I finally got inside, I couldn't find her anywhere. We never hooked up again until the end of the festival. Turns out she passed out while in line and was taken to the First Aid tent, where she spent most of the rest of the day. It never occurred to me to check there. I just thought she got lost in the crowd.

One of my biggest regrets is not going to Coachella in 2001 due to the heavy jungle/d&b lineup (kinnda like this year Mmmm =-) ??)
Funny, I remember only seeing a small handful of acts too. Being it was my first year I think I wandered around and just took the whole thing. It was a blur (and I was pretty sober).
And yes, Fatboy was ridiculously amazing. I've seen him twice since too and they don't measure up to the magic that year. He killed it.

Missed him for Wolfgang Gartner. Different kind of sunset vibe, but it worked for me.
I spent the first couple years not really knowing what the hell I was doing but having a great time. A far cry from the amount of researching music and planning that I do these days.

^The tent absolutely ERUPTED. Everybody was jumping up and down. Witnessing that was simply phenomenal.

It's crazy seeing "The New Deal" on that lineup. I thought they were just another hippie jamtronica act that only the young hippie kids know about. Didn't think they'd been around that long. Funny.
That kind of music - the jam band electronic stuff - gets booked where I live all the time. EOTO, Lotus, Papadosio, Boombox, Disco Biscuits, STS9, Orchard Lounge, all of them. We recently had The New Deal play and I assumed it was just another one of those bands that only exist in that vein of fans. They weren't that good, but then again, hardly any of this stuff is.
I am missing 2001, i just realized that its March and I had to turn the page on my Coachella calendar.

Wow, I barely remember anything from 2001! I remember wandering around, dancing in a tent(probably the Sahara from looking at the map). I remember seeing Weezer, Gangstar, and of course Janes Addiction (although I saw so much more I don't think I even knew what I was watching lol). During Jane's, I was right behind that little stage (what was that??) and all of a sudden Perry popped up right in front of me. I just remember thinking it was one of the greatest experiences I ever had and I promised myself I would continue to go every year! And I have![]()
