Sugar Ray did not. i don't think Styx did either. Journey did though.
Not very many stadium shows happen. Off the top of my head, bands i know sold out stadiums with their own tours: U2, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Guns & Roses, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, New Kids on the Block, The Police, Madonna, Michael Jackson....probably some more, but whatever.

Coachella isn't that big....
California Jam, also known as Cal Jam, was a rock music festival concert held at the Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, California on April 6, 1974. It attracted 400,000 fans that paid, which at the time, set the record for the highest paid attendance and highest gross in history.
Acts that performed at the festival in order of appearance:
Rare Earth
Earth, Wind & Fire
Eagles
Black Oak Arkansas
Seals and Crofts
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Wow
Even then they had the crazy rumors of lineup surprises.
"All of you coachella 'regulars' have nasty boy pussies and itchy dick4's on your asses.
Why don't you all make like a tree and get chopped down and die. You all have been dreadfully mean to me.
I Hate you. All of you. None of you will ever get to see a womans chest meat or finger blast hott cougies like me.
Fuck you all. Consider this my resignation.
Fair the well, you elitest scumbags."

I was at CalJam II. The bathrooms were disgusting.
"Well, that's just like, you know... your opinion, man"
If we're lucky something will happen. Some adversity will happen and something unexpected will happen and you'll get tired and you'll get hungry, you'll have trouble going to the bathroom, and you'll lose your car keys, and all these wonderful things will add up to some powerful experience that 10 years from now we'll say "We lived, we lived." - Wayne Coyne on Coachella
i don't think the lineup has anything to do with this thing selling out. the festival has taken on a life of its own now. this is the new norm.
Lick an orange, it tastes like an orange. Lick a pineapple, it tastes like a pineapple. Go ahead, try it. Try some more. The strawberries taste like strawberries. The snozzberries taste like snozzberries! We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. Come along, come along.
wow.

Layaway Indeed! Now I have to find a hotel... and airfare! To the threads!
"An attitude of gratitude brings you many opportunities."
The Black Keys took their talents to Nashville.
There are low end hotels out here (I work only a few miles from the Polo Grounds) that aren't on the internet.
google map em' - I will let you know...they are nasty hotels...but a roof is a roof.
Good thing I got my 3 day pass just now. I'm not taking any chances on this selling out.
I would guess that more passes will become available.
