A lot of my friends say DEMF is just like a techno stage at an Insomniac event.

$300 isn't realistic, even staying at the Corktown. :P Trick is in CA, so flights alone are probably that much. I think you could realistically budget ~$500 in addition to airfare, which would include the GA weekend pass, splitting four nights in a hotel with others, sharing a taxi to and from the airport with a few others, going to one after party each night, and having $50 each festival day to spend on food/drinks/other. I would say that realistically most of us probably spent more like $800+ in addition to our flights. It can be done for less, but don't skip after parties to save money, and make sure you leave a little extra money to go eat something awesome (ahem, Slow's) one day while you're there.

The nice thing is that you can space out the costs over months - ie, reserve your room w/o advance payment now, buy your festival ticket now, pick up your flight when you see a sale fare, and grab after party tickets in late May.

Weekend passes are $79 right now. They'll continue going up until the festival. VIP weekend passes are $199 right now, and they are well worth the price if you drink, don't want to wait in lines, or don't want to be searched.

(to recap what has already been posted many times, the VIP pass includes: separate entrance (which in our experience never has security checks, though that's not guaranteed; also the GA entrance line can get really long later into the afternoon and evening while GA does not); VIP viewing sections behind the main stage (with lots of seating and shade) and on platforms at the back of the main stage amphitheater; flushing toilet trailers with short/no lines; six free drink tickets. You can also buy more drink tickets once you've used those - the VIP drinks are slightly cheaper and the lines are definitely shorter than GA.

Oh yea, my brother tried to book at Doubletree (where a lot of us are staying) yesterday and said they are showing as completely sold out right now.

If you buy VIP tickets, you'll have the opportunity to book rooms at the Westin Book Cadillac, which is pretty nice, and the rates are in the same ballpark as the Doubletree. There is also the Marriott Renaissance Center (Ren Cen) though I've been told it's sort of a clusterfuck because they shut down most of the elevators at night so it can take forever to get to/from your room after the fest. Patrick stayed at Hostel Detroit 2 years ago and really liked it. The price for the hostel would be almost as much as splitting a nice hotel room with others, though. There is always the Corktownn Inn. It was shitty and sketchy, but staying there wouldn't cause you harm, and they have double rooms for $75/night. It books up early though.

There are some other hotels downtown. Look for proximity to Hart Plaza, and if you have concerns about how far it is or what the neighborhood is like, ask here. (There are some rough neighborhoods as you would imagine). Prices for hotels in the suburbs might tempt you, but it's not really a good idea - you will hate the commuting, especially when you've just partied all night and only have a few hours before you want to be back at the festival

Awesome lineup... I'm relieved Blawan isn't on the initial one or else I'd have to drop everything to make sure I get there.

    Regardless, this lineup kills.

I guess 300 isnt realistic if your flight costs 200$.

Last year i spent 50 bucks to drive, 80 on the ticket, another 80 on afterparties because i waited to long to buy tickets. The room cost 120. I prolly spent 50 bucks at the fest on beer.

Pretty sure i could trim it down to 300$ this year by chosein afterparties earlier.

So you didn't eat? I've had friends say they've done it for around $600, but even that seemed unrealistically low for someone who is flying.

Yea, I am really happy to see that name on the lineup. I'm really pleased to see several acts that I've not yet seen (but have wanted to see) on the initial lineup. Looks promising.

About rooms, people should look into the website Air bed and breakfast. We might be able to score a great deal on an appartment for the weekend that could fit a bunch a heads.

Home in the Historic Eastern Market

This 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home is in downtown Detroit, you can see the Lions stadium, walk to greektown, the Lions and Tigers Stadium, theatres and the eastern market. Great nieghborhood, was the pasters home to a historic Luthern Church. attached garage, fenced yard, washer, dryer, complete kitchen. 3 king beds, 1 full, 2 sofa's.

    Room type:Entire home/apt
    Bed type:Real Bed
    Accommodates:9
    Bedrooms:4
    Bathrooms:2.5
    Extra people:No Charge
    Minimum Stay:5 nights
    Weekly Price:$1500 /week
    Cleaning Fee:$75

With a 5 night minimum and a full week being 1500, you could probably get it down to 1200. Split that 10 way and you have yourselves a nice place in DT Detroit for 120 a head.

k I'm about to buy tickets. George Fitzgerald and Maetrik AKA Maceo Plex are the highlights for me.

So I've never been before and don't know where to stay. Some place not too sketchy with lots of fellow partiers would be perfect. I keep hearing Double Tree is good but it's all sold out now

Every hotel at all close to Hart Plaza will be full of partiers. It's not avoidable during that weekend.

Here are some ideas, note I have not been in or stayed in all of these:
Doubletree Fort Shelby - sold out
Marriott at the Renaissance Center - right beside the festival though apparently not very nice
Westin Book Cadillac - VIP ticket holders get dibs on a special price here (Movement will email you about it), lots of festival goers stay there
Courtyard Detroit Downtown - almost certainly sold out
    Antheneum
    Holiday Inn Express Detroit Downtown
    Greektown Casino

There are some more casino hotels I believe but most are a little further away.
The aforementioned Corktown Inn is very cheap, "not too" sketchy (it's a little sketchy) and while not close to the festival, they have a shuttle.
One of our friends stayed in Hostel Detroit and liked it a lot.

Main thing is that if you see hotel suggestions for Dearborn or other suburbs, understand that you will need to drive to the festival, there is not really a reasonable public transportation option, and with traffic on the holiday weekend that can be time consuming.
